Woodburner glass cleaning

I have had numerous Woodburners in various houses, and even with ensuring that the wood that is used is dry cannot keep the glass on the fronts clean, and always wary of using certain cleaners for fear of damaging the glass seal.

Any suggestions/ideas.

Hotspot Glass Cleaner should do the trick, or you can dip a warm damp cloth in the ash and scrub away.

Wet newspaper and dip it in the ash. Use this to remove the soot buildup and then clean newspaper to finish it. Alternatively burn the fire hotter for a while often helps.

No need for fancy cleaners, the above works a treat.

I've always used kitchen spray worktop cleaner, toilet cleaner, oven cleaner... whatever they all work. The rope will need replacing every few ears anyway, this is a simple job.

I bought a glass scraper and some special stove glass cleaner (german) product but have since learnt that newspaper wet and dipped in ash works just the same if not quicker (as above poster suggested)

Save your money & use the ash!

Really hot stove & driest wood (incl kindling) helps

+1 more for the newspaper/ash trick. Helps to spit on the newspaper... but maybe that's too much information.

+78. MOst fancy cleaners, no matter how fancy, WILL pit the glass over time. Soggy Newspaper has worked since time immemorial.

I just take the glass panels out of ours, then pop them in warm water and washing up liquid - comes out fine plus no mess.

I used Hob-brite to begin with and it worked really well.
However, in common with a few here, fire works best. I leave the doors ajar for the first 5 minutes, then close it down.
I haven't had to clean the glass for 6 years.

Many thanks for all the tips, we always use very dry wood including kindling,must try the newspaper & ash.

Weekly clean using a nail brush and vinegar.
