Hey all thought id give here a try as on many of the other forums ive looked at relating to these qualifications my question can never be answered properly as the forums arnt independent so the answers i get always point to their own materials IFS Learning's forum especially! Has anybody on here recently completed these or is in the process of doing so? If so what are you using to revise from? IFS have sent me the latest update which is ridiculously long as ever but its not really easy to revise from as much of it is so unnecessary and long winded. Does anybody know of any audio CD's which are relevant to this? As i feel that this would be ideal as i am often out in the car for work or what not and i could listen to them from time to time on the motorway or in traffic and be doing something productive at the same time!

Hopefully someone on here can help!!

Andy

I did them both a while ago. I found the exams questions as good as anyhting to revise from. Particularly seeing as the question bank seemed to throw up the same questions time and time again.

Are you doing them on your own or via an employer?

doing them myslef, do you know any good places to get questions from as ive bought all the papers from IFS who have sent me 2 and both of which are mock exams so dont really want to revise them as i wont get an indication as to how well ive remembered everything and if i should go for the exam or not, what company did you do yours with? Reading around i wish id gone the CII route, seem far more professional and better organised!!

I just had a load of the old question papers and sat down the week beforehand reading and re-reading everything.
I did mine with IFS.

For your guide, CII quals were certainly better regarded (once you get into the swing of the IFS exams you'll see why), but they have lightened up with their new online stuff.

Have you checked you'll be level 4 compliant with the exams you're doing?

What do you want to do?
Mortgage Advice, Full IFA, tied agent sales?

IFS are being their usual self and have said that they are going to get back to me about being level 4 qualified but ive been pestering them all week and to no avail, from my understanding i will but im not 100% sure on this, Hoping to be full IFA but my work situation is a bit all over the place so not entirely sure, are you IFA or tied?

Cheers

Ive been reading on another forum which is focussed towards these exams and i registered a week ago but you have to wait for an admin member to validate your account so i still cant post as of yet so thought it may be worth a shot on here, do you know where i can obtain Schweser VCDs as these seem to be what are recommended and i think these could help :/ - so much information and so little time!grumpy

I'm a mortgage broker. I'm whole of market, but because I don't charge fees, I'm not allowed to call myself independent (if you're lost already, don't be dismayed, you'll get used to that sort of logic in Fin Services)

Have you spoken to any firms or networks as yet? You might want to start that inline with getting your exams. Some of them are really odd about taking newly qualifieds that they didn't train.
Others look for bancassurance bankgrounds.

Oh and most of them have a business model that. post 01/01/2013, doesn't work.

In the current IFA marketplace I would take a very very close look at any "too good to refuse" propositions being offered. There are a shedload of people looking to get out prior to RDR. There are a shedload who have client banks that post RDR will be next to worthless. There are a shedload more with oodles of st hidden in their clientbanks. With the best will in the world, there are alot of IFA's with few scruples.

Oh and CFA is Chartered financial analyst...... that would be a level 6 qualification.
