E36 Coupe window issues
Discussion
Hi there,
I was wondering if anybody has had similar experiences and may be able to offer me advice with some gremlins in my passenger (near side) window.
It operates more slowly than the driver's window (not surprisingly, as it gets used less) and when it gets halfway up, it will change direction and fully open again. Holding the "up" button is the only way to close the window fully. I'm assuming this is probably due to the regulator arms in the window becoming seized up with age, and the motor changing direction because it's interpreting the excessive power required to operate the window as a possible obstruction.
Also, when opening the door, sometimes when window won't drop immediately but waits for 5 or 10 seconds after the door has been opened before dropping. Then sometimes it'll just juggle up and down three or four times in quick succession for no apparent reason!
My first question - is there any mileage in attempting to remove and lubricate the existing regulator, or am I just better off replacing it with a new part?
My second question - is the window juggling up and down related to the same problem (partially seized regulator arms) or am I possibly looking at two problems here?
No problem spending money to fix the problem, but want to try and ensure I'm spending money on the right parts, rather than throwing money at a new regulator and finding it was a problem with the motor, window ECU or sensor!
Thanks for any help or experience!

I have had a similar issue before with the window getting half way & dropping. I lubricated the window runners with silicone spray & it sorted the problem, even speeding up the window.
As for the juggling when opening, I believe there is a micro switch in the handle the drops the window? maybe this is dirty or faulty. I'm not 100% sure on this & am happy to be corrected!
