hello, i have posted this thread to find out which cleaning products PHers use on their cars for the best finish for the cost of the products? (shampoo, clay, polish, wax, interior cleaners, tyre dressing ect.)
Thanks.

There are people in here know far more than me, but as a general rule I stick to Maguiars products and have always been pleased:
Clay Stick
Paint Cleaner
Polish
Carnauba Wax
Detailer for in between and with the clay stick.

Good wool & microfibre cloths, applicators etc etc are a must though.

Like I say, this is just the opinion of an amateur.

Baz,

That is like asking what is a Ph'er's favorite car....you'll get loads of differing opinions and arguements....many people will stick with what they have used for years whilst others will be buying a different product as it comes onto market or as soon as they see it mentioned on Detailing Worldhehe

Were you after a generalisation or an actual recommendation for your car, as it depends on colour, paintwork condition and how much elbow grease you want to put into it.

Personally, I use a mixture of 3M and Menzerna products for machine polishing, Collinite waxes for longevity or Dodo Juices finest depending on colour of car. Mother's Protectant for interiors, along with Liquid Leather for seats etc.

Anything NOT on sale on the high street is worth buying. Anything available on the high street is not going to be any good for your car.

Baz, there is a lot of snobbery around detailing.

If you're starting out, my advice would be that the preparation and maintenance makes all the difference. Invest in some good quality microfiber drying towels and a couple of good quality wash mitts (I like the £2.50 ASDA Microfiber noodle mitts) and some microfiber towels and applicators for use with polish/wax and then look at the actual products you're using.

Halfords have a 3 for 2 on most of the time, and whilst I'm not keen on the towels/applicators that they sell, they do sell Autoglym and Meguiars, and as I said, if your paintwork is in good shape those two manufacturers make very good products.

In simple terms, if you put the effort in at the preparation stage and get the paint swirl and defect free, the choice of products you use doesn't matter so much.

If you have swirled paintwork sort that out before spending a penny on expensive waxes.

Here's what I use:

Shampoo - Dodo Supernatural, Britemax Cleanmax or Zaino Z7
Polish/Wax - the car's new and I had it detailed using Gtechniq C1 on the paintwork so I don't really use anything.
Interior - for cleaning all-purpose-cleaner or Einszett Cockpit Premium, and for a dressing 303 Aerospace

That stuff isn't necessary though, I'm into it a little bit more than is probably healthy so like to try different products out (as I said there's a lot of snobbery out there).

Have just started giving this stuff a go on aluminium and stainless steel ( there are a few options to choose from ) after a recommendation.

Not sure what the pro's use but the first thing I said was what was written on the bottle. smile

You can keep your Autosol, this stuff is so easy to use it's silly. Use sparingly, Wipe on wipe off and leaves no residue. The finish is......well Brilliant biggrin

Ignore the high street v specialist guff, you can get excellent results using a mix of both. I use Autoglym shampoo, Megs clay and Quick Detailer spray, Megs paint cleaner, Autoglym bug remover and Autoglym SRP all from Halfords.

I also use Wolf Chemicals de-ironizer to remove iron fallout, a variety of wheel cleaners, wheels waxes, Tardis or similar tar remover and Pete's 53 wax. Also worth mentioning that I wash using a mitt and the two bucket method, dry with a waffle weave towel and not a chammy

Halfords also do a few Zymol bits. I love the bodywash. Decent wash mitt plus two bucket method = shiny car! Smells lush too.

2 buckets, 2 spunges 1 with hot soapy water, the other just water. Wash, dry & wax using Meguiars Tech spray.
