Breakdown cover for older cars.

Who do you have the cover through. I have my RAC cover through Barclays, I contacted RAC who have told me that if I breakdown in main land Europe I will have to pay £100 on the spot and they will then sort me out.
I could also take additional cover for about £55.
So I see it as a gamble of £45. Break down and I've paid £45 more than I would if I had cover. Or not break down and save £55.
My car is 12 years old BTW.

Had the same issue with my car as it's now 22 years old.Maybe not worth it for this trip, but when your RAC policy comes up for renewal check out ADAC - they do annual European coverage, on any car you drive of any age, for €80 per annum.
If you break down in the UK they send out the AA and you can have your spouse (if applicable) covered at little or no extra cost.

Bloody hell !! Although forgive me if I sound cynical, but check the small print to make sure they haven't cocked up. Last thing you want is a problem and them turning round and saying you're not covered.

Double, triple & quadruple checked. Dates aren't quoted on the email so I'll have to wait for the paperwork but cover looks OK. Also worth noting that you can pay by credit card - you just need to ask them for a form / email which you then complete and fax back to them.

That is one hell of a bargain - I know who I am going to try right now.The other quotes you have mentioned is what I have been finding.
Age restriction was never an issue when i tried to get cover on my now 15 year old citroen.. the issue was with the fact the small print with all of them said if it costs more than X % of the BOOK value of the car they wont bring the car back.. regardless of modification or value to the owner..

Last year we just took out parts cover up to £500 or something and a handful of tools.. we were prepared for whatever was neccesary in a H reg R5 GT Turbo
