The loss of road-legal status for Toyo R888's and similar in October is a real pest as I want to drive to trackdays.

What's the experience out there of alternatives to R888? Don't fancy squirming around on PS2's. Anybody used Corsas?

It seems the trend for mainstream supercar tyres is for 19 and 20 inch sizes and there seems little choice in 335/18

Predictably it's just a european problem. All road tyres over here have to be S marked to show they don't make too much noise..........

Pass me the bucket for vomit; When it's full I'll find the europrat in Brussels and make him / her drink it before pissing on them from a great height.
These s are shafting us for our hard earned and then using our hard earned to shaft us, fking s need fking with a pitchfork where the sun don't shine, we'll see what makes more noise then and I can assure you it won't be the tyres, fking bds.

Rant over.

By the way what is the concensus here?
I had corsas on my Noble M400 (std fitment)and they were just fantastic,
standing water and cold aside.
I was lead to believe that they were no longer available and something called Tropheo?? were the replacement.

Why aren't you guys using the Kuhmo's that Ultima supply. Awesome price and work really well. A mate of mine tried the Kumho's after using a full dunlop slick and there was only 1 second a lap difference on a short track. Not bad for a you can use on the road.

The factory seems to favour these.
Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-Fiorano tyres 245/35/ZR18 front 335/30/ZR18 rear
They don't mention Kumho tyres at all.

The snag with the Kumho on road is the ultra shallow tread depth. 75 per cent of centre of tyre needs minimum of 1.6mm tread. ... COPS - you've gotta ask yourself a question.. Do I feel lucky? Err.. no

Haven't checked if the Kumho is S marked, but none of the other manufacturers have an S marked semi slick.

If Kumho's are for "track" use and Goodyear F1 fiorinos are no longer available what do the factory suggest?

Ted suggested to me to buy Kumos for the road last month, so im supprised you have been advised the opposite and track use only??

Ive been looking at R888 and also the possibility of upping the rears to 345/35/18.

I can forsee there is going to a problem with standard wheels soon and the factory will have to develope a 19 inch wheel??

345/30/18 is closer to corrected dynamic rolling radius gaining just 2mm
as opposed to 16mm with 35 aspect ratio.
though the latter would be a tad more compliant.
Am I missing the point here?

I did a lot of work on the Kumhos and found them excellent. Any car with >300 rear (driven) tyres has got to be driven with care in the rain on the road.

Like the Porsche now, I had two sets of rims, with GY on one and Kunhos on the other and just made a call the night before with which to go for.

I supose the telling thing is which would I chose for a regular drive out on the roads? Well, it would be the GY (which doesn't help).

Must say though - the goodyears melted incredibly fast on track, and very difficult to get the pressures right all day. So to answer the OP's question - Kumhos for me as a trackday road legal tyre.

But as you guys have pointed out - how long will thay remain legal??

Waynes car has R888. I'll see how I get on with them. Gone off them a bit with the way they wear on they race car. We'll see.

The R888's were a really fab tyre on the Ult - especially with 285 on the front..tongue out whereas on heavier cars they overheat and scrub off the tread block leading edges.

The point is that they lose road legal status in October. Corsas? Anything?

I suppose a good idea would be to get Trackclub or BaT to store a set of slicks and swop on the day.

Got Corsas on the GT3. Alright I s'pose. Safe for rain (better that MPS Cups for that), but no dedicated track tyre.

Are Kumhos included in this October directive Stuart?

Does anyone have a copy of the directive and the exact criteria of what will constitute a road legal tyre, or are we making assumptions all the trackday tyres will go regardless?

Loads of stuff on the net. It appears that we are allowed to use up the non-S marked tyres on our cars and that non-compliance will not constitute an MOT failure whilst these old tyres are going out of the system. We can obviously still buy R888s and use them on the road but the snag is being nicked.

£2500 and 3 points max PER TYRE is not even remotely a risk I am prepared to take. The other scary thing is of course if you had a traffic accident and your dodgy tyres were found, likely as not you will have no insurance and be open to maybe significant financial claims personally.

I have not contacted Kumho as to compliance of the V70A because that tyre is of no interest to me due to the tread depth issue.

Are slicks acceptable at all trackdays or do they require treaded tyres (in case of rain)?
