New Convertible advice
Discussion
On Friday I will be collecting my new toy and want some opinions on the deal I got:
99(T) 328i Convertible from a main dealer, Manual, 23k miles, Electric Hood, Climate control, Techno Violet with grey leather.
Dealer was asking £17k, but I'm paying £15k cash and giving my Escort (worth a grand) in part-ex... good deal?
Also, being new to the world of BMW ownership, any tips on possible "features" of this car that I may be able to prevent occurring? For example, some have said the auto hoods can be a problem? Any advice?
TIA...

Mail Scoobyzoom, to check theres no issue with your particular car with regards the bore wear problems (nicasil(sp) on some of BMW's Six & 8 Cylinder engines.
With regards value hes also the man with his finger on the pulse and he'll be able to check the exact spec & official BMW history of the car your buying if you ask him nicely!
Not getting at you personally, but why do people always like to check the deal they got is ok AFTER they've done it ?
surely its much better to ascertain what you should be paying beforehand!

No offence taken! Any car is worth what you are willing to pay for it, and I think I got a good deal! I've seen a lot of BMWs recently and none came close to this quality for the money, and combined with a grand off screen price, I know I did okay!
Just ascertaining what others think
Was just after some general advice on E36 Convertible ownership... anything to look for etc?
A bit vague I know but when I owned a Corrado there were some well documented problems and problemettes to be aware of, and I assume the same is true of this marque?
Also, as you are said to be the man in the know when it comes to BMWs, do you know where I can get a pricelist for all the optional extras that were available to the 328i Convertible (1999)? Just wondered exactly how much my car has depreciated in 5 years...
TIA

Perhaps you'd do the same for me ie. let me know whether I paid too much and if they are known for any problems.
I've bought a 323 convertible 1998, 60k miles and I paid £9k.... if I've paid too much, tell me gently guys please.
Depends on options, whether private sale or dealer and general condition of the car. I was originally going for a 323 (couldn't resist the Techno Violet 328 I ended up with though!) and drove quite a few that were 'ok' and nothing more. Arfur Daley types seemed to be asking around £12-14k for a 99 plate with 40k miles and very few toys, so I'd say you got a fair deal.
What I found was that, for that sort of money, I couldn't get anything that was in good condition (engine and body) with Auto Hood and Aircon and in a decent colour, hence having to up my budget a few k's.
As I said further up though, any car is only worth what you are willing to pay for it... if you're happy then what does it matter?
