On The Music Path - iPad App
Discussion
Mods: Before you consider moving this to the Computer section. The discussion is about using this as a tool to learn the guitar, the audience for this is here.
Has anybody else used this app for the iPad? I've just started learning the guitar and bought a book 'Absolute Beginners Guitar' but found it a bit disappointing as it was a little 'short'. So then I started looking at what was available in terms of apps for the iPad. There are probably loads but I was a little put off by the free/cheap ones as I was really after a 'learn at your own pace' alternative to paying for one-to-one lessons this early on. This decision was mainly so I can get over the aching fingers period and so that I can at least know the basics before bothering with a proper tutor.
The app is free but the lessons are between £1.19 and £19.99(!). The £19.99 lesson is an hour long so not too expensive when you consider the cost of a proper tutor. The costs, I feel, are acceptable when you see how slick they are and also the people doing the lessons.
I've only done one lesson so far, at a cost of £1.19 but I learnt more in that lesson than I did with the £10 book I bought. On that basis alone I'm going to continue using it as it's, so far, good value and is saving me paying who knows for a tutor.
It's reassuring that the lesson commented that the things I'm experiencing at this early stage (sore fingers & an occasional 'buzzy' A major) are things that a 'normal' and they'll eventually just fall into place.
For anyone wanting to learn the guitar, I think it's a good choice.
For those who've already been using it, what are the later lessons like?
