I picked up clk270cdi yesterday. Today after having the ac re-gassed, the car engine management light came on and the car is suffering a loss of power..... any ideas???

I cannot see any reason for this. Connecting up the pipes for a regas should not have interferred with the power. Is the car in limp home mode and topping out at 45mph or is it the sense of less power - like the turbo is no longer cutting in?
Who did the work? Cynically, are they very quiet for work at the moment?
It could be you now have a split hose or a loose clip letting the exhaust gasses/air escape.
A competent mechanic should be able to give you a visual inspection but after that you have no choice but
to get Mercedes to plug in the diagnostics.

the power loss is more signifficant from a stand still, but it does go above 45mph, so i wonder if it could be something to do with the turbo or pipes, can any one inform me which pipes to check?

Hi, this just happened to my 2005 E 270CDi, is there more smoke than normal coming out back end? I thought the air mass was away due to power loss but all it was was the (please excuse my very poor mechanical knowledge) very fat pipe just right of centre at the front of the engine had a large split in it and that's all it was.

Throwing some logic at this, clearly the ECU has picked up a fault, hence the warning light on.

If the car is hooked up to a STAR diagnostic computer at a main dealer, or MB specialist, it will tell you what the fault is. Assuming having had a mechanic under the bonnet and fiddling with the AC, he may have inadvertently dislodged an electrical connector to one of the several sender units around the engine. It could be a split induction pipe / duct as previously suggested if your man has lent on it. Did he need to dismantle anything to get at the two AC connectors?

There is not a lot you can check other than visually seeing a loose / broken component. If nothing is obvious, the STAR diagnostic will give you the answer in 2 mins. Let the forum know when you get the answer.

Thanks to everyone for your help, it turns out to be a gear box speed sensor, along with a faulty water pump. Where would we be without STAR!
