Decat pipes.

Hi all.

I'm looking to get some decat pipes for the Cerb before I pick her up. Which is the best value place for me to get some on order please? For a '97 4.2.

I'm not sure about linked/straight through. Essentially all I want is the standard Cerbera exhaust note, which I think is loud and aggressive enough, with some extra artillery fire on the overrun. That would suit me just fine.

Linked WILL quieten the car. Mine is actually louder with the cats on than with the linked de-cat. I am running a Blue Flame rear system though.

Unlinked de-cats will give you a good sound if you just want more volume.

Secondhand will be the cheapest option.

Thanks Ridds that's very helpful. I don't want to make the exhausts any quieter, that would be sacrilege. That would make my best option unlinked decats, which would increase the volume and give me the pops and bangs? How much will it increase the volume by?

I'd go for unlinked if you want more volume.

IMHO linked changes the sound of the car (you don't end up with the sound of the 2 separate banks).

Just had mine decatted as well as sports pipes and it is evil, above 3k revs its verging on nascar territory. As for pops and bangs it's like a machine gun on over run. Not sure if I'll keep if like this or put the cats back on.

Well, the unlinked decats are fitted, whilst retaining the standard backbox. As a compromise, its great. It barks like a wounded animal under throttle but settles down so as not to be intrusive at normal speeds. The biggest difference though is how much cooler the engine is running now. Its showing 80-85 degrees on the gauge now, rising to 90-95 in traffic, a difference of about 5 degrees. Economy has risen from 15 to 19mpg too from my calculations!

That said, those crackles still aren't as brutal as I would have liked... I'm seriously considering a sports exhaust.
