ecu diagnostics

Having some trouble getting the ECU to connect up to the diagnostic Software.. Using an old PC with serial port..

Can anyone confirm what the port settings should be 4800 baud etc?

Keep getting a comms error ... Serial port is working and have checked and rechecked the cabling.

9600 baud. You need the ignition on and the alarm off. I.e. Ready to start the engine (or the engine running)

default is also Com1 (can change with F10 I think), need to turn down the UART setting on the com port.

What USB/Serial converter are you using as it is normally here?

Sorry just reread you are using an old PC with Serial.

Have you got the latest software from Graham Varley's website?

As above make sure it is ready to fire up.

I download the new software blue car background,(assume it was from grahams site?) tried 9600 baud etc , with engine running and with ignition only... Still no joy ?!??
Reconfigured the com port ...
Got to be missing something simple...!!

Not sure if it is relevant but the ECU is of the later type with no dtype inside but has both a 3pin(one I'm trying to connect on) and a 2pin connector ECU connector ..believe I read this is for fault codes.

Wooohoo .. found the issue ... was a pin pushed back on the ECU connector :-) All up and running now..... just some throttle pots to set up and linkages to replace now

i have a usb to 9 pin lead .. just in case does anyone know where i can buy a usb to 3pin lead
