Looking for a week on the Broads early July. Decided we fancy a boat and have no preferences where from, etc, just need to keep the price down. Anyone have any experience with booking last minute ie to go tomorrow? Am i likely to get a discount rate, or told to sod off?

(Will also post this in East Anglia)

Don't go to Hoseasons or Blakes direct, go direct to the boatyards themselves to see if they will give the deal.

Probably best to google them. I can't remember many off the top of my head but certainly Richardsons of Stalham is a big one (I have been at least 3 times out of there in the past and they are good).

This!

Royals of Wroxham have in the past done us a good deal direct in the past. Paying cash also helps ;-)

OP has correct idea, absolutely last minute for any really good deals.

Of course choice will be limited and flexibility re boat and location needed.

There still appears to be some reasonable choice and some discounting for early July is already starting, even via the agencies, but £50 off a £600 quid boat is not what the OP wants I suspect.

Also it's getting that base prices are near peak season rates, so a good % discount will never make it cheap, especially when quite ordinary boats from nothing to write home about yards are listed at over £1k.

Oh...and make sure to get one that will go under all the bridges as not all do and this limits your use of part of the waterways yes

I am in two minds as to wait until the day before, or the week before. I shall go direct and will travel anywhere. There is only me, the mrs, a 3 yr old and a dog so w are very flexible as to location, I just want a cheap price. I begrudge paying 600 or more for it when we can go abroad for that

True, true...

...but the Broads are an ace holiday if you haven't been. I think I have been there around 5-6 times over the years and had a great break every time (and certainly took dogs on a few of the trips - they enjoyed it too smile )

4 mph holiday takes all the stress out of life. Just make sure to get to where you want to spend your overnight early enough to guarantee a place. We used to get to where we wanted by mid pm at the latest then just while away the hours walking/pubbing/reading/fishing/cycling before hitting the pub/restaurant/BBQ in the night.
