Track Day Exhaust - Impreza

Hi,

Did my first track day yesterday - unbelievable fun!

Anyway, I stuck my STi backbox on for fear of failing noise limits, however, it made my car a bit too mute. So, do we think an Afterburner BB will pass 102db static test, and if not what would guys and gals recommend as an alternative?

There was a Porsche there and to me it sounded easily as loud as my Afterburner setup.

Miltek, Hayward & Scott, or Prodrive backboxes will sound very nice and easily get you through the 102db noise test no problems.

102db is pretty generous as far as track noise limits are concerned. Lucky you're not driving at Bedford Autodrome with an 89db noise limit which ends up excluding some standard/unmodified modern performance cars.

Revolution 3inch system works for me, current car had 576bhp and passes noise test, usually 96db. The 89 limit is ridiculas.

Static is not usually a problem its the drive-by thats the problem for Scoobies or indeed any turbo car.

Boost makes a bigger bang, resulting in more noise compared to the static test where the car isnt making boost.

That reminds me - lets get the girlie STi BB off and get the proper one back on...

Prodrive boxes are going for 150+ on ebay! Whats a cheaper but comparable alternative?

Revolution is 320 for system if I remember correct

Result (I think) - I just tested my exhaust (0.5 meters at 45 degrees) and it measured 93db. I had just assumed it would be louder...

Does that sound about right?
