Ah a bit of culture in a reality TV show.

Last season was excellent with Darius Danesh going on to great things.

Joe McDodah from X-Factor kicking things off nicely.

Surely this show should be pronounced (in Peter Kay stylee) Popstar T'Operastar ?

Little Jaw McXFactor must be so disappointed at the way his career failed to take off. It's funny how the girls (Alexandra, Leona) seem to do well but the boys (Shane Ward, Leon Jackson, Joe) just don't have the success.

No pressure having Rolando as a mentor.

For many years, my favourite tenor to listen to was Roberto Alagna, then for a short period Juan Diego Florez. Then, I heard this:

I really enjoyed it, Midge was voted out but he doesn't really have the oomph for opera.

Simon Callow as a judge is just brilliant biggrin

Looking forward to hearing Andy Bell as he has a versatile voice.

Nothing new under the sun,

About 30 years ago, BBC ran an experiment where they tried to coach pop/folk singer Barbrara Dixon into being able to sing the area from "Orpheus in the Underworld". She didn't do a bad job but she recognised that the disciplines were so different that she wasn't comfortable pushing her voice in that way as it could ruin her more natural "folk" voice.

70 years ago Vera Lynn was advised to stop voice coaching as her fortune was based on the fact that she had a "natural" voice which would be lost if it was operatically trained.

My brother lives in Barcelona, and his father in law is Dalmau González, a famous opera singer who has performed with greats like Domingo, Carrerasm Caballe etc.

I've seen him perform a few times and they truly are amazing, opera singers.

The ability to convey emotion, and suck the audience in is astounding.
