Tornado chips ?
Discussion
have recently purchased a chimaera 400 with a tornado chip and the reqd mods for correct operation, all I can say is great idle and pulls strong thru all gears all rev ranges seems to help the torque also
comparing to my other chimaeras over the years. Seems to allow pull away in higher gears at less rpm !!! meaning pull away in 3rd or 4th gear!!! not that I practice that
Have to add tho also has perforance leads and power amp in the ignition circuit along with exhaust mod,
smoothest and gruntiest chim Ive had to date...sure others here will have mixed views tho

The Tornado chips are very acurately mapped to engine spec' so it minimises the ammount of correction the ECU has to do to keep the engine emmission complient. You cannot however generate more power below 3400 rpm or 2/3 throttle as the fueling is tightly controlled, and you cannot overide this basic fuction of the ECU, but keeping the adjustment to a minimum can make the car less likely snatch,(this can occur when big fueling changes are made to keep the emmissions low) so the car drives better. They also have some nice touches like a slightly raised tickover and the MIL light is enabled when a fault occurs. Another nice touch is they have modified fuel maps for both catalys and non catalyts use as standard, so you just need to change the tune resistor to change the fuel map. The non catalyst fuel map is a lot nicer to drive with, but if you run it with the catalysts it can reduce the physical catalysts life and it wont pass an MOT on emmissions. As for full power above 3400 RPM, the TVR chips are already set for maximum power, so you wont suddenly gain 20 BHP!

Just had car serviced at Hexham HC and asked about engine upgrades. Was advised that a tornado chip from Mark Adams would be worth while considering. Has anyone had one fitted to Chim 400 and if so did you notice any improvement in overall performance ?
Sadly your profile is empty so I don't know your background but if this is your first Chimaera and you've recently got it (guessing by your "handle" and history on here) then why on earth are you considering engine upgrades !? Unless you're a seasoned RWD/TVR driver then the car probably still has loads more performance to show you - its not exactly sluggish.Brakes and suspension should be on the list way before pumping up the BHP

Cheers,
Matt.

Do you get a free battered cod with that £400 Chip
those best guess maps are miles out !
You are being somewhat unfair on this one, as it is just that. If you order a chip specifically for your standard and correctly running TVR and ECU (note that bit!) and that has not had the silicon treatment, it will be pretty spot on. I have one on my car, running a non catalyst map and its perfect apart from a very minor rich spot at 2500 at over 80'c under light load. I dont think I would do any better with an MS system on the fuel side. Id agree about wasted spark, but you can by the trigger wheels set up for around £400. I do think its a pity MA does note reduce the price of his chips as the market gets smaller however.

Well i had a best guess map for my new engine ,the Map was pulled from his data base and the results were absolutely abysmal so this tells you that all engines are different ..Six months of calling emailing and no luck so it got ripped out for the Megasquirt..It may be pure luck as alot of you are 100% happy with te best guess map..
I have a Mark Adams Tornado chip fitted to my 450, works great and could tell the difference straight away. Also I spoke to Mark before I fitted it for advice, really nice guy and knows his stuff and also happy to give you expert advise on anything you ask him about for free,,,,,,,
Thumbs up from me.

Yes but you are fighting a loosing battle with out the wasted spark..!
Don't give wasted spark all the credit Daz it's the mapped ignition doing the biz
and in all fairness to MA before affordable EMS's it was the only option to get the best from the Lucas CUX system and as said by others on here they are more than happy with the results
your becoming a right Megasquirt snob you are
next your be telling us how much HP you've got
go on you know you want to

Yes but those AF ratios you posted where so far out something else had failed on your old 14cux setup, so no amount of shouting about maps
would have fixed it unless you had fixed the origional fault. You cant blame Mr Adams for that.Edited by blitzracing on Tuesday 7th June 12:48
Sold everything , it paid for half the Megasquirt stuff ,Dizzy,ECU,Magnacor leads, coil etc etc..It made about 290bhp with the Chip..
Nothing wrong with the 14cux and i would of been happy going down the Mark Adams route..Not pulling it down..Thats how i got the car back after the rebuild and nothing wrong with anything except the Fuel map..
