Hi all - I'm looking for a local outfit to put in some laminate/engineered wood flooring, fit new worksurfaces, remove a gas hob, and a few other bits and pieces.

Been let down by one guy (who had already quoted, and the insurance co had issued the cheque in his name), had 3 others in who promised to deliver quotes within a week but haven't bothered.

I'm not sure why, but we still need the work doing!

Can anybody recommend a local company (I'm in West End/Lightwater area)

Thanks!

Heard a few good reports about trades people found on here:

http://www.checkatrade.com/

Might be worth a try if you can't find someone through a personal reference?

Thanks I'll give him a call smile

Yep understand that, but in that case why waste half an hour + travel to come around, measure up, and then never bother getting back to you!

Or for the first guy, cheque written (insurance co), everything agreed, and then go flakey frown

There seems to ge a few tradesman around these parts that quote, and then don't bother to turn up to do the work.

I have a archway that needs to be remodelled to have 2 doors fitted between dining/ living room, a doorway that needs to be sealed up and a new doorway created (internal) but no one wants the work.

I had to bodge some brickwork as the brickyard let me down only 4 days before I wa going on holiday for 3 weeks. I did not fancy leaving an exterior door open (temporary boarded up) while away.

Weird isn't it. If you're busy then why waste the time in an evening looking at a place!

Actually got two quotes back yesterday (after chasing them) so probably won't call your mate but thanks for the contact smile
