Z4 Roof Stuck

My friend at work has removed his hardtop for the first time in a couple of years to find the soft top wouldn't raise, he managed to raise it manually and now it's stuck in the closed position. This wouldn't be such as issue if his hard top wasn't stored in his living room!

He's tried the manual override in the boot with no luck, any ideas how to get it to go down?

Also are the motors repairable or is it a case of a complete replacement, our local BMW dealer (Hexagon) is quoting £1,500!

I've not heard of a motor being repaired, though I'm no tech. Have a look here for more info

I had that problem on my previous zed.I took it to LEE SHANNON bmw independant at Bently near farnham he knows everything bmw.

Undo the latches by way of the allen keys (in the hatch above the rear view mirror). Once the latches are free, the roof can be manually lowered, or rather pushed! Its an effort and if on your own you will have to create a gap that you can squeeze into (standing in the car) so you can get the leverage.
Make sure the release cable in the boot is released, which you must have already done to get it to go up.

The motor is under 300 quid, it's the hours in labour that kills you, easy enough to do yourself

Hi

Just helping a mate put a new motor in. All has gone well and the roof goes up fine. However it wont go down! Are there any 'resets' that need to be carried out? Could it be the microswitch playing up?

Sorted! There was a small microswitch att he rear of the hood that had decided to fall to bits.
Can't believe the electric motor is unprotected if the drain hole blocks. Looks like a common problem. Have BMW ever helped with cost of replacement
