I have found myself with a difficult decision to make, and would like some advice to see what other may do in my situation?

I am currently working in a warehouse - I love it there, even though the salary is not what many poeple would find impressive, but the commuting costs are starting to eat in to my salary a lot more with rising fuel costs etc.
I commute 26 miles a day, and am struggling to afford the commuting even though I have a car with a tiny engine, with my mortgage to pay as well.

I was called recently by a recruitment firm who are looking for employees for a certain well known pension company. Apparently they are very keen to meet me, even with the salary I have stated I require (i.e the same or more than I earn now); and I have an interview this week.
HOWEVER - I used to work in pensions, and ended up leaving because I had grown to hate it so much. I went to work every day filled with dread and would leave miserable at the end of the day. In three years I got shifted to about 6 different areas! I left because I was offered my now current job which I absolutely adore.

Now I'm in a rut - If I am offered this job Friday, I am not sure what I am going to say. It would be much easier to have more money and less commuting costs - it would make life a lot easier - but there is the potential I won't enjoy it as much as my current job - There is a possiblity I may, but having worked in pensions for 3 years, I'm having a hard time believing it!

Please can I get some opinions to see what other people would do in my circumstances? My head's leaning towards the money, but my heart not so much...
Sorry if this post isn't very coherent, I'm struggling to find a way to best describe the situation!

Its not always about the money, I would rather be a bit worse off and happy than the other way around. However if you can go in with your eyes open and give it 100% you might get on better than before? If you already doubting it though.....

Do you NEED the extra money?

How imporatnt is the extra money to you?

What was it about the old pension job that you hated so much?

Would the new pension related job be of a similar type to the one you hated previously?

To answer your questions, the extra money would be nice - on the amount I'm earning, I can obviously afford to survive, food shopping, petrol and the like, but I don't go out, don't really have many luxuries in my life because I can't particularly afford to, and I'm having to save up for what should be a really cheap car show weekend later this year frown

As said, it would be nice to have a bit more spare cash every month rather than next to none, what with our mortgage going up all the time too.

The old pension job was just awful. Awful. Constantly being swapped around between departments; unorganised management constantly giving you grief for mistakes they should have avoided themselves; the company's insistance on monitoring what you did every minute of every day - we had to fill out a spreadsheet detailing what we did every day.
Basically, tasks were given a certain timing. This was not always possible to keep to, as some cases would take longer, loo breaks, etc. If we did not achieve at least 100% on our timing - then we would be questioned why we hadn't - even though it may just be as simple as something taking longer than it should have. It's impossible to go into too much detail, as it really was a ridiculous practice in order to make the teams more 'efficient'.
Also, we were threatened with redundancy twice, and just stupid other things - like two faced, disgusting human beings for managers for instance.

Apparently it will be slightly different, i.e No fingers in many different pies, just one pie. That's all I can really put without going into too much depth at this moment in time!

So, the extra money is "desirable" rather than "essential".

And the new pension job is "slightly different" to the old one.

None of that would be a suitable enticement for me.

Sounds to me that your current job is more suitable to your current frame of mind. Maybe you should ask them for a payrise.

Hmm that's the thing. It's desirable at the moment, but with the inevitable fuel rises, and our mortgage going up in Sept too, the desirable will soon become the essential.
I'm not sure what the new pension place will be like, I'm worried it'll be very similar though - I could just be being pessimistic, I might enjoy it? I'm not sure frown
I got a payrise recently at my current job - I am due some licenses as well.
I think I may go to this interview, but i'm pretty certain it's not for me.

No harm in going. At least you might get a feel for what the job might be like.

Yeah I suppose you are right smile I will update the thread once I've made a decision after the interview! Thanks Eric.
