Looking through various forums etc day dreaming of engine swaps and the like and I've stumbled across a post where someone claims that the last run of Bs were offered with a Turbo as an option.
Is this true? This being the internet I've taken their posts with a large pinch of salt.
If however this is true I would be intrigued by all the information available!

I've got the one piece log manifold, just need to find a Maestro turbo carb and plenum and a turbo which will fit the manifold and I'm done!
No it's not for sale I'm afraid. But it's an easy thing to do as there is no shortage of low compression MGB engines anyway and the low compression engines will be about perfect for a low boost turbo installation.

Never heard of a factory one but more than one person has noticed that the later, M/T-series engines are basically a development of the B-series - http://www.kewengineering.co.uk/upgrades4mgs/Engin...
The T series is by far the most sensible way forwards, I was going down that route myself before I stupidly agreed to restore the donor car for the friend who had offered me it's guts!!
I can't help but thing a montego/maestro turbo would be the easiest installation by far, plus being carbed it shouldn't be too scary from a wiring point of view.

This is what someone was talking about on an other forum. What is the manifold from exactly? No it's not for sale I'm afraid. And do you know how much boost you can run?
They were dabbling with fitting O series engines towards the end of the B's life and therefore it's been easy to conjecture that a logical choice would be to fit the turbo on it from a maestro / montego.
Plenty of manufacturers (mainly US) offering superchargers for B series engines on a single carb.
An issue with the B series isn't so much the engine as the overdrive unit - when they first fitted the V8 in there, the amount of torque being produced would wreck the o/d in 3rd. Hence, the V8s only had o/d in 4th. I would suspect a B turbo with 1.2-1.5 bar would probably produce the same amount of torque as a detuned rover V8 and would do the same damage.
Personally, I'm not sure that a turbo is in keeping with the character of the car. The MG specialists down in Bournemouth, something beginning with F?, did a 300 bhp cosworth conversion which just sounds mad.
When the engine finally goes on mine, I'm likely to look at the rover v6 from a zs /zt initially, or look at a zetec engine on carbs. V8 would be nice, but not at £5k for the conversion and as the car was my dad's, I can't really sell it and buy one that's already done, much as it's the logical way forward.

I know about the O series and the V8 over drive issues.
I was surprised that they were planning to fit the O series with the same box and o/d! If memory serves they actually built one, not sure if anyone ever took it home though?
I'm not planning on bolting a turbo on mine (yet!) more interested in how its done and the story behind the conversion, especially if it was offered by the factory / owners club.
The MG Owners Club produced some turbo charged B's in the mid '80's using the O series engine I think, might have used the Montego Turbo set-up. I'd have to dig out the the Enjoying MG mags for the details. Of course the O series was intended to go into the B if it had continued production.

As an alternative, some people sell superchargers, Moss does: http://www.moss-europe.co.uk/Shop/ViewProducts.asp... as does Hi Flow (in Australia) : http://www.hi-flow.com/HP003bSuper.html
