Hey guys -

The gas strut/piston that holds the boot open has just decided to die on my car - meaning the boot won't stay open and I can't get to my golf clubs laugh

Can anyone tell me what cars I can grab another one off that will fit the Chim boot..?

Thanks,

Dom

Funny you should mention golf clubs, think it is same as a Golf Mk4 !

No doubt somebody will be along soon with more details (or try search)

Give Richard Thorpe at RT Racing a call on 0114 281 7507. He will be able to sell you one or tell you what car it's from. He's always been very helpful with me.

Cheers,

Hmmm,

I was hoping to grab something from my local scrappy - seems a little mercenary to give RT a call so I can avoid buying his full-price product...

Anyone got any suggestions I can try..?

Thanks,

Dom

Any part number on it?

Ford Puma would be my uneducated guess.

Just ordered a new one for mine. Search on google for SGS engineering. Should be the first hit. Had a couple for the wife A6 - Delivered quickly and worked great. Really easy job to change.

I bought a Golf Mk4/VW Bora boot strut off ebay for about £8 and fitted it a few months ago. You just need to switch the end bits over with your existing one and it goes straight on.

The lid also goes up further than it did with the old one. Easy. smile

Edit: Here ya go, this is it (slightly more expensive than when I bought it);
