Hi Guys.
Can someone please give me a point in the correct direction.
I have British Gas comming next week to do free loft insulation in my
three bed room house. I am told that I will need to provide some vents
for the insulation.

Now, I have been to Homebase and Focus and the staff just look at me
with a very blank expression and know nothing about it. I have through the
Wicks catalog and there is nothing mentioned in there.

Can someone tell me what and were I can get these mysterious vents..?

Thanks for your help.

You need to maintain an airflow through the roofspace. Otherwise the trusses may well rot.

You'd need them too.

The rafter baffles stop the insulation quilt from filling the ventilation path.

Possibly but I think that they mean the rafter vent: http://www.harcon.co.uk/eaves/index.aspx

We had our loft insulation done a couple of months ago. We were required to have a couple of vents added. All the builder did was replace a couple of roof tiles with dome like vents.

Why don't you call British Gas to clarify which type they require?

Not sure if it is for the same purpose, but I was in someones loft the other week and they had foam wedges between the felt and the tiles.

There was a notice on the rafters about them being for ventilation or something along those lines. Think it was a BG installation aswell.

That would work - there are various sorts of things designed to open up the gap in the felt, such as this: http://www.manthorpe.co.uk/Building/Products/Roof-...

How did you go about getting the free installation?

There was your first mistake.

Oh and the staff wear that expression permenently, it's obligatory, comes with the "training".

Rather a derogatory remark - considering the wisdom oh PH has not yet given the answer!

..News update!
Been round the houses after dealing with British Gas, felt like I have spoken
to everyone, Finally got hold of a helpfull chap who has discribed perfectly
what i need and it is the vents perviously mentioned from a company called
'Manthorpe'

Thank you very much for all your help guys.

Ps. Buy both your gas and electric from British Gas and they will do
free cavity wall insulation and loft insulation....But you will need the
felt vents!!!

Thanks for the update.

I've seem these (or something that looks the same) a few times: http://www.easyvent.com/

Don't forget that, if you still have a water tank or two in your loft then they need to be super-well insulated. If you've got a combi then that's fine as long as there's no connected water piping left up in the loft.

Be careful with British Gas. Their Installers aren't great and they have been known to take shortcuts. My company wouldn't have made you get the Vents. We have little things which can spilt the Felt open slightly to let some air into the loft.
