We're off to the Il de Re (been there before) for a week soon.We have an extra two days to fill, any suggestions where to go. I've been to La Rochelle for two days before and don't really want to go there again.

I was going to say Il de Re... ho hum!

Assuming you're driving down, then I'd suggest the Loire Valley - around Chinon/Saumur.

There's always Futuroscope near Poitiers too.

Saintes and Cognac to the south of where you are are both worth a visit -

Saintes has Roman ruins and stuff

Cognac...cognac of course! most of the cognac houses do tours which are quite fun if you like that + the town itself is quite nice as is the countryside around...rolling hills covered in vine

Cognac it is, thanks. Might try the Roman stuff too.

+1 for Cognac and if you can, visit some of the smaller vineyards on the outskirts of Cognac. They make a great wine using the same grapes they make the cognac with called Pineau, give it a try.

I know you said La Rochelle is out, but the aquarium is well worth the trip if you haven't been.
