So had a RWD road car for a while, but of course never pushed it to its limits (and beyond) due to saftey and fear of mashing it.

Recently bought a weekend car (MX5) and fancied a bit of track action in it.

I really want to get to know the handling better rather than a flat out run around a track.

I guess im after some sort of run what ya brung on a skid pan or such like? Bit of RWD for beginners in their own car?

Any ideas / thoughts?

I hear airfield track days are good for beginners:

However, I think if you choose a flat track with a lot of run-off like Bedford Autodrome you'll get the hang of it quickly enough. Some places also have novice days.

As long as you take care and dont go plowing into the first bend, theyre shouldnt be a problem doing any UK track?

taking care is all very well and good, but making mistakes is only human - and on a lot of circuits you'll quickly be in the gravel and rapidly running out of run off.

Still to an airfield, only cones and grass to hit, that is if you even get off the tarmac.

other than that, mazda on track car control days are good value and great fun - good way of learning about rwd, and you're actively encouraged to find the limits.

Book on at Oulton Park but on a drift day. An excellent way to learn how to handle your car if it lets go on track. Not fast at all and you will learn a lot that you can then take on to a trackday
