Christopher Ward and 'jewels'

I', quite interested in treating myself to a decent watch and through PH have seen Chris Ward highly recommended. There are two I quite fancy, the C4 Peregrine with '9 jewels' which is my first choice and the C7 Rapide with '22 jewels'. Both are similar prices.

I don'r really understand the intracacies of a watches innards, so can someone explain if and why having more 'jewels' makes a difference.
