What a day ! My first track day ...It does stress the car, came back with a noisy wheel bearing and the power steering pump on its way out..The 20 minute tuition gave me more confidence.any one have the part numbers for the rear wheel bearings ..

Spun the car on a tight corner ,think the secret is to make nice smooth lines and don`t drive above your limits..I think track day tyres are a must ,my Falken 452`s are just not up to the job .i was surprised how well the lower powered cars go around the track early Mazda mx5`s ..The geo is set for the track so it went well around the bends but its terrible on the roads bump steer!.

Well done Daz,

I wouldn't worry about MX5 etc going round quite well, it amazing the difference a few trackdays can make to your speed round track.

Everyone always want to know how to make thier cars faster for trackdays, and I'm sure HCM will back me up on this, the best upgrade is tuition.

Myslf & my mate Speedtwelve used to do loads of trackdays up at Knockhill in VW Scirocco's & we used to catch and pass much more capable machinery. Partly because we had cheaper cars and didn't mind a small off, but alot was down to how hard & late we braked, how much speed we carried through the corner & how soon we started feeding in the power.

If you are going to do a few of these, I'd get some tuition, then do a couple, then go back and get some more tuition to remind you of the finer point you missed when you were first learning.

And yes, eventually you wll be be wanting to get bigger brakes & Toyo R888s etc :-)

I had a chat with the guy on the second video(last bit) with the 430bhp twin turbo Mazda..he said his car could not keep up with me on the straight and it looked well balanced around the bends..Going close 130mph up the straight gear down to fourth and round the corner at 75MPH..If i did get in to it i would fit a roll bar better front brakes (but the cosworth upgrade worked well)and a four point harness and some track day tyres..

Daz, it's quite simple.

There is a tried and trusted formula that woerked for me.

Tuition,
Practice,
Inprove suspension,
Practice,
More power!

I had half a day, one 2 one with a race instructor, a great day, 4 bald tyres, life doesn't get any better cloud9.

Now get out there!

Yes i will be going..he was a bit annoyed in the 430bhp Mazda RX7 on the straight ..he pulled me to one side and asked me what i had under the bonnet..look at the last bit of the clip. I had no chance round the bends
