CHECK YOUR FUEL PIPES!!!!!!!!

I've just had a second fuel pipe under the bonnet of the chim perish and spit fuel everywhere!!!..

the same pipe went last year and the rac replaced it, does it need a special heat resistant pipe???


i had noticed the fuel consumption had rocketed, but as i didnt notice anything else i put it down to the car not being used much in the last 6 months. Then gettin git out of the garage on saturday, i noticed a stong smell of petrol ( takes a lot of shunting back and forth to get her out) and when i went ot shut the doors about 1/2 a gallon of optimax all over the floor

open the bonet with the engine off but ignition on and all seems fine. ignition off then onn and a few second squirt of fuel everywhere as it pressures up... with the engine running its chiucking fuel everywhere...



the moral is.... check your fuel lines and carry an extinguisher !!!!

Always always carry an extingisher.....!!! had a car catch fire once with the same problem and all i could do was watch my pride and joy go from a small flame to a total burn out. in less than 4 mins. i was gutted.

Why dont you use ss braided stuff? Its more expensive but will stop the problem.

Is the pipe a complete uninterupted line - ie. if you replace with braided, is it a case of replacing all the way back to the fuel pump ?

Probably wouldn't make much difference to cost if it was, most of the cost IIRC is in the ends with braided hoses. In any case it runs pretty close to the exhaust all the way back, and that gets pretty hot as well!

most of the pipe's are metal its just the ends ( about 12-18 inches) in the engine bay that are rubber.

Been under mine today, and the petrol pipe clipped to the chassis all the way back appears to be made of a springy black metal which does a very passable imitation of rubber. It has very effective butt joints where it joins the 18 inches of rubber pipe in the engine bay too - so effective I can't find 'em!
