Where's my NCB gone?!?!!
Discussion
I've just bought a new bike and had to cancel my old insurance with E-Bike (I don't think this contravenes name and shame rules - I'm stating fact) as I've reinsured with MCE.
The thing is that I've been riding since 1984 continually and never ever had a claim. I've got some old policies dating back to 2001 which show me as having 9+ years NCB. I moved to E-Bike in about 2006 (at a guess) and my proof of NCB went off to them.
My problem is that I have declared 9+ years to MCE. However the proof of NCB has come back from E-Bike showing 5+ years - the most they care about. This is a bit of a bummer as MCE do want to see the "9+".
E-Bike are, basically, uncontactable and I've given up sitting in their phone menu system at £1 a minute
and they don't seem to respond to emails (there's a moral here: you get what you pay for!
)
Anyone any idea what I can do here? I'm a bit cheesed off at giving them proof of NCB and then several claim free years later getting only half of it back
Can MCE get evidence from the ABI or something?

Doubtless someone who knows will be along but I had a long long NCB and one day it turned up as 5 and when I queried it the company said that 5 was the max so while the longer period was nice to know, it made no difference. this makes sense when you consider most proposal forms are only ever interested in accidents and convictions in the past 5 years.
I can't see the difference in time making much difference to your premium, five years is still a long time, just explain the position to your new company and say you can only actually prove entitlement to five years.
I have 39 years ncb built up, but only registers as five with my company.
(imo) it is worth "protecting" your bonus for the small additional cost.

Unfortunately MCE want the 9 and the premium I paid was based on this. I'm quite sure that if was dealing with a decent company then this would be easy to resolve, but in this instance at £1/min it will probably cost me more than the premium to get them to sort it.Wacky Racer said:

I suppose it is entirely dependable on the insurer and how they give discount I've seen policyholders enter 15 years NCB but proof from previous insurer states 9 years and when changed can increase the premium between £20-£50 albeit car insurance I'm referring to, sometimes the limit on NCB of 5 or 9 years can really cost people money.I have 39 years ncb built up, but only registers as five with my company.

could you use the ncb you used to get your ebike quote (ie from your previous insurer to them) which would show 9 years, or whatever, on top of the e-bike one showing 5?
All my previous polices and quotes no longer show when I log in. pejay said:

Excellent! I actually got through quite quickly (and free! :thumbsup
and spoke to a very nice young lady who is sending me out a 9+ letter
Thanks for the help

This is why i left E-bike, they are nigh on impossible to contact, but upon renewal, they wont leave me alone!!
I renewed my photocard licence and my date of passing my test changed from 2000 (when i passed) to showing as 2002, when i became full power, i.e. not restricted to 33bhp etc.
I sent updated licence to e-bike for my old mans policy on his virago as i am named rider, they said i lied and demanded another £20 as i was 'less experienced'
They lost my business forever after that as that was simple greed, they even had a copy of my last licence showing 2000 as my pass date!!
I am now with bennets!
