OMFG...WTF is going on!!!

Right thats it..Im calling in a priest for an exorcism on my car..I went out there to try to open the bonnet..Laid down in front of it put my hand on the front spoiler and i could feel it trembling..I then heard a loud scary heavy breathing then someone whispered in my ear "Its my car"..So i jumped up and shouted at it "You fng freak" and then i could hear a child crying...I think its time to dig deeper into the history of the car and also find out why it was really hid away in a garage for ten years!!
Now it really makes me shudder when i think it nearly killed me twice..Once with 2 of the 4 diff plate bolts coming out and the third one loose and then with the petrol flooding out an inch away from a very hot exhaust..
I know this sounds either funny or weird but trust me i have experienced REAL ghosts in the past..Waahh..Ive just done a little poo..

Just to confirm..I had'nt woken up properly..It was me heavy breathing and me saying to myself "Its my car"..The child crying was my neighbours..But how do i open the bonnet????..I have looked from underneath..Cant see jack..Ive tried pulling it upward but all i can hear is a cracking crunching sound as the catch is splitting away from the bonnet..Ive tried a coat hanger..a piece of wire..Pulling the old wire with pliers..The only way i can see is if i smash out the top bonnet vent as i can see the cable through it..Can any body suggest something please as i dont have the money to recover it to the garage just for him to break it...Help..Ziga

Sounds like your car cooks socks in hell Zig!
It may be possible to get access from underneath and up past the engine, but you may need 3 elbows and 2 wrists to do it!

Cheers but in my frustration i have started to hack open the top bonnet vent as i can see the cable through it..As i did so it has peed down with rain..Now i need to wait for it to stop go out there and finish hacking..In the meantime im trying to locate a new mesh..It was the easiest option even though not the prettiest..I think leven have the mesh if not then it will have to be standard racing mesh..Ziga........

Mark,

Stop! Its not the inner pulling but the outer pushing that releases the catch. You pull the release handle and the free length of inner reduces at the bonnet end, the inner is fixed to a non moving part of the catch, so the outer pushes on the release lever.

Sorry Taz..Id already started the op when i read your post..If your squeamish look away..I was physically sick after doing this..But at least i can open the dam bonnet although i cant locate a bit of mesh or see a way round it yet or how to fit a new end on....Ziga




Sht..Ive just realised that i only needed a small section cut..Not a whole half of it..What a dumbo...

The alternative to cutting from the top was jacking up the car and removing the exhaust and nearside downpipe to allow someone to stick their arm up and open the catch.

As you will see the catch lever is moved across towards the nearside so tie some wire to it and drill a small hole to feed it through into the interior adjacent to the glove box. A dab of mastic to seal it and if the cable ever breaks agin after a quick tug you have instant access.

Hi chaps..went out there this morning and caught the postman trying to put my mail into the bonnet..The cheeky bd..Mind you i suppose it does look a bit like a post box..


PS: Maybe be a bit more descreet with the quick tugging and drill into the glovebox..Although i would have to do it slowly and be carefull not to catch anything..

Had to resort to cutting the bonnet grill like that on my 280 too.

The mesh is in stock at B & Q.

Cable came today and i found a couple of brass balls that fell off a brass monkey one winter..Hopefully will be able to get it welded on in sitchu..Should be getting a secondhand set of injector pipes so the car should be up and doing it again..Cheers..ziga

Well there was this that happened when i first tried taking the picture of the cable..Just as i was about to take the picture the curtain rail creaked and two of the curtain rings and clips flew off and landed to make a face..Im sure i heard a demonic laugh when it happened..I had to go out..re-compose myself and come back in ..Ziga
