911 Turbo S

Yet another variant - this one boasts 450bhp!

Details are now emerging of Porsche's new 911 Turbo S. The Turbo S is based on the 2004 911 Turbo and will join the all-new 911 Carrera and Carrera S in the 2005 model year line-up.

The 911 Turbo S, is powered by the 3.6 twin-turbocharged horizontally opposed flat-six cylinder engine and produces 450bhp and 457 lb.-ft. of torque between 3,500 and 4,500 rpm. The engine delivers these figures courtesy of larger turbochargers, modified intercoolers and revised engine management electronics. Additionally, the six speed manual transmission has been strengthened to handle the torque increase.

The Turbo S has a maximum speed of 190 mph (307 km/h) and accelerates from a standing start to 124 mph (200 km/h) in just 13.6 seconds, 0.8 seconds quicker than the 911 Turbo.

Standard equipment on the 911 Turbo S includes further developed Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes. The internally ventilated ceramic discs have a diameter of 13.78 inches, both front and back. The front brakes use six-piston monobloc fixed callipers rather than the four-piston version used on the 911 Turbo. The composite brake discs provide a 50-percent weight savings compared to conventional metal discs resulting in reduced unsprung weight, better shock absorber response and improved handling.

In addition to the Turbo S logo on the rear lid and on door mouldings and centre console, the Turbo S is identified by its 18-inch wheels painted in "GT silver metallic" with coloured Porsche crests. Other standard features include cruise control, a six CD changer system and a green-tinted band at the top of the windscreen. Also for this new model, special dark olive metallic paint is a no-cost option.

Inside, the Turbo S features aluminium faces on the gauges and a Turbo S logo on the tacho. Optional special leather is available on the seats, steering wheel, gear stick and hand brake lever.

The Porsche 911 Turbo S Coupe is priced at £99,300.00 (inc VAT).  The Turbo S Cabriolet shares the same 450bhp engine as the Coupe, and has a six-speed manual gearbox. However, both the Coupe and Convertible Turbo S models can be ordered with the Porsche Tiptronic S five-speed automatic transmission. The price of the Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabriolet is £105,030.00 (inc VAT).

Christ I'd hate to be a Porsche parts man! How is anyone other than Stephen Hawking supposed to decipher all these variants?

So aside from the big brakes and the special colour how is this different to the X50 option on the current TT?

This new variant is distinguishinable only by tiny marking on its rear...

But I'd still love the cabrio...

There was an article in Evo magazine recently talking about how bad the pccb were.

They cost alot to replace and lots of dealers have started replacing them under warranty as they see a problem looming.

If these are second gen pccb, does anyone know if they have been uprated/fixed so they don't generate cracks after 10,000 miles!?

Sounds like a 911 Turbo with the X50 pack and some pccb brakes and an S badge...
Why bother when Ruf will do the same kind of thing for a bit more money, and it'll be much more unique...?

I agree. The Turbo S does not seem to add anything over the standard Turbo with X50 pack.

Lazy effort from Porsche IMO.

It would not have been beyond them to get 500hp from the car. That WOULD have tempted some existing 996TT owners to trade up.
