Off on Holiday on the 18th for 2 weeks to florida. I've been a few times, but the last time was back when I was about 14. I am now 25.

We have tickets for all the major parks including Busch, but I was wondering for any more adult things to do over there. The party consists of me, my mum, brother and sister-in-law and my girlfriend. The only negative being my girlfriend is 20 so obviously cannot drink over there. Are the Disney Boardwalk and Universal Citiwalk good?

Also flying for the first time with Virgin from Manchester, any ideas on what to expect. Last few times I've been to the states I have been to the mid-west and ended up with Delta who are a touch horrible to say the least. Will it be packed full of kids?

In a word, yes. All running up and down screaming their heads off. There and back. In all classes. The one reason I never fly to Florida, even to access any of the other southern states.

Pack some ear plugs.

Cant be much worse than the old 767 Delta flew us to ATL in last time I went to the states. Sat right at the back, the nearest TV screen was 8 rows infront and broken!

Broad walk is OK and you can find a few bar / clubs there. Also check out Universal, Theres a Hard Rock cafe there and they have live bands, I prefer it there in the evenings. Old Town down in Kissimmee is also good in the evenings. They have a classic car show down there most weekends. Trouble with most places in the USA is they are geared up for you to drive there, so drinking becomes a problem. Get the Girlfriend to drive biggrin Find yourself a Hooters Bar wink

Sounds like there is a bit to do then which is good. My brother is pretty much tee-total so is his wife which helps the driving bit about it.

What i wondered was is it the same as in the UK ie, you cant enter the bars or clubs unless you are over 21...in which case my girlfriend has to stay at home.

No problem with under 21's going into bars (and most clubs), but they can't drink alcohol, that's all.
Make sure you carry photo ID when you're out on the piss though. Some places card everyone who looks under 30, so you might want to prepare yourself for that.
I live in Orlando, so if you need any specific info, feel free to ask.

We flew to Orlando in January from Manchester with Virgin and we were on a very nice 747, got the extra leg room seats right at the back and it was a great flight.
Definitely make time to go to see Kennedy Space Centre while you are there, it was a fantastic day out and very interesting.
The Old Town classic car cruise was pretty boring, we had seen everything after 30mins and there isnt anything else to do in Old Town.

Virgin should offer you a day trip to Universal Islands Of Adventure which will get you into the park an hour before it opens and you get breakfast in Harry Potter land, do it. The breakfast is crap (porridge) but you will get to go on all the Harry Potter rides before the queues get big. Definitley worth it, the broom ride inside the castle (cant remember its name) it amazing and later in the day the queues for that will be a couple of hours.

Also go to the Florida Mall, we had a shopping day there and got so many bargains, the clothes are a lot cheaper than here and much better selection.

Every Friday and Saturday (main one on Saturday) there is a car cruise at Old Town in Kissimmee - it's like a recreation of a 50's town and has a fairground either side including an expensive "dragster" ride. The cars, mainly classic American muscle, are droolworthy and I actually found it just as good as the parks and it's free (bar the rides obviously - note the tickets only relate to the rides on the "side" you're on.

Seen it all after 30 minutes? Must have gone on the wrong night. Preferring a Florida Mall? Hmmm.....

There's an Irish pub restaurant opposite wich is dirt cheap especially for jkids and nice food. The Red Lobster (I think it was - it's at the entrance) was not very good at all.

Thanks for the heads up, definitely added old town on Saturday to the itinerary, fly this Saturday so looking forward to getting out there to the villa and having a good time.

What time does the car show in old town start or is it an all day affair?

Roll down about 7pm. They all park up down the side and round the back and the cruise is later in the night when it goes dark.

Here you go, Steameh, there's a bit of a trip report on page 2 that might give you some more ideas. Our highlights were the Kennedy Space Centre, an Airboat ride, and the beaches thumbup

Sounds like you had a great time, I cant wait!

Definitely going to try and get to a beach now too, those images look fantastic, of the two which would you say is better?

I am confused by the duty free, can I buy a bottle of liquor both ways? Im assuming you cant bring it back in hold luggage if you didnt drink it or bought some bourbon over there?

Of the two, Clearwater was the nicer, I'd call a visit to Clearwater beach a must. There's also a lovely old wooden pier that you can stroll along whilst the Pelicans eye up your ice cream.

If you want a quiet beach on which you can walk for miles, go over the bridge in Clearwater to Sand Key http://www.pinellascounty.org/park/15_sand_key.htm or if you want a remote island with stunning beaches, just up the road from Clearwater take the boat trip to Caldesi island http://www.floridastateparks.org/caladesiisland/
