Has anyone done this? Mine is kaput and I am wondering if it's better to replace it myself or get it done at the specialist from a paperwork point of view.

I think it's the third time it's been replaced, annoyingly.

Mine stopped working last year. Turned out to be the sensor which had been dislodged. Located on the diff IIRC.

Is it stuck at just under the x thousand mark, ie 29999 or 25999 or 36999 or 58999?

Don`t think your speedo would work if it was dislodged. My mileometer as stopped working and the tachco but the speedo works..It worked for a while then stopped again ..any ideas..re set the tacho about 200 miles ago and still no luck..

The speedo works, it's just the milometer that doesn't. It's a digital one and one day the screen just blanked out, then it started recording miles randomly, then stopped working altogether.

Have your repaired.

My speedo stopped working and has just come back (after 7 weeks) from Speedy Cables. Cost was about £100 iirc

MAy be worth getting a quote elsewhere.

There are a couple of options although none have worked for me. Drive backwards at speed. Tap the front. Drive normally and it'll click over. Press the trip button when moving. I've had to take the dash off and tap the metal back gently to get it to click over, test it and then re-install dash when it clicks to the next 000 mileage.
Speedy cables seem to be anything but and i'm not sure it'll last any longer after refurb. You can't drive it whilst removed as it is illegal.

Good luck.

There is a defence in law to not having a speedo.

If you have taken steps to have it replaced expeditiously then you may drive the car. It is a defence in law, i.e. you still commit the offience so have to prove the defence. This can be by was of receipt etc.

So using Speedy Cables would not be considered expeditious then. hehe
