missing the boat every time

Slightly frustrated now. The last two cars I have seen, I have been quick off the mark to inspect but both cars gone same day/next day because I have procrastinated.

This may be a good thing with my limited mechanical knowledge and my gut feeling said hold off.

Trouble is when I do see one I'm keen on Mr ingelsby's lead time seems to be 2-3days and NOT weekends. I won't buy without an inspection.

Similar experiences/ways round this?

you will recall from my thread from a few years back it happens to the best of 'em. I had Rob Ingleby on standby too and was getting beaten to the good'uns.

Just keep going and the right car will come along sooner or later. There seems to be a few in the classifieds that have been there some time. Remember, people swill sometimes take quite low offers if the car is hanging around and if they actually need the cash. Not saying go making stupid offers, but consider how long some have been for sale when making enquiries oevr the phone - no harm done there is it. Especially as you can see yourself from the various ones you have viewed that some of those for sale are priced optimistically

The thing is the one I saw on Sat. The blue S3 went for 5k today. asking 5.5

I think the Offord S2 went for similar. One I rang up about for 7k went in 2days!

So if anything prices are firming. Never thought I'd say this but what we need is lots of rain!

When I look for my Griffith (he said, optimistically) I'll start earlier in the year.

Took me ages too - every time I waited for the weekend to see one, it was gone by then. Ended up taking a few weekday's off to view early!

I had Rob looking for me, but in the end I saw the one I wanted, fell in love and put a deposit down. NOT the way to do it - but worked great for me.

I had regular 200 mile round trips, looked at 2 cars each day both rubbish, or so to speak...

The good ones go, alright. But theres always another the next day. Keep looking, keep searching, you might think that you have seen the best or that you have missed it but believe me...

When you see the ONE everything will fall into place. the price, the condition, the history and Rob being able to check it over.

Bloody hope so anyway, or the summer will be gone.

I guess it's one of those things when you look back on it and it all adds to the satisfaction of ownership.

I'm definately not on the ball at the moment. Got my TVRCC membership the other day and a copy of 'Sprint'

Local meeting 3rd sunday in the month. Go along me thinks. Turns up, no bugger there!

Don't despair Mike...

I looked most of last summer and finally bought a mint S3, 27k miles at the end of August..

There was me thinking the summer had gone...

I have still done 6,000 miles so far over the autumn/winter, off to Le Mans in a couple of weeks..

Having a TVR is not all about the fair and sunny weather, its about freezing your bollox off in the winter with ice on your nose, Roof off of course....

Good things come to those who wait..

Try asking a local Dealer of Indy if you can book the car in for an inspection, a good look over a car should not take more than an hour or two... You would only pay for the labour...If the seller is above board he could take it along...

However, if you know you're going to look at one in a particular area, it might be worth sticking a posting on here to see if anyone can recommend a local specialist who could take an hour or so to give it the once over for you for the appropriate fee.

I know that all the good guys are fairly booked up, but if you ask nicely they might just squeeze you in.

It's nice to know it's not just me. Seems like most people have had to endure some emotional ups and downs to secure their pride and joy.

That's a good idea Richard. Pistonheads is pretty good for help/resources, dare I say it better than the TVRCC forum, although to be fair I've only just started posting on it.
