What Car Thread - For my GF

My better half is going to be looking to buy her first car fairly soon, she passed her test 6 years ago in europe and current has an european driving licence which she will be getting swapped for a UK one.

She is looking for a first car, current thoughts are either an Audi A3 or a Toyota Yaris.

Budget is around 2k.

I know the Yaris and the A3 are different cars but anything hatchbacky really. She will be using it 30 miles a day to commute to work and back and driving it 200 or so miles every other weekend.

Either a frugel diesel or a small engined petrol would be good, if petrol it will probably get converted to LPG as I have a spare kit lying around I can fit to it.

Any suggestions?

How about a large saloon type car? Or at least a sports car which'll be more fun to drive!

Is that a yes to badge, or to both? Bit of a conundrum really - I wouldn't touch a £2k A3, quick look on PH Classified seems to be 120k+ miles, and it's the sort of car that will have been popular with the council estate heroes who wont have done any maintenance. That said I wouldn't want to be doing 800+ miles a month in a Yaris.

Boring an predictable but surely a Focus is the obvious choice? You'll get a half decent one for your money, and it wont be that bad to do the miles in?

Yeah I am leaning towards a Focus, a 1.6 petrol that I can stick an LPG conversion on.

Either that or we find a tidy uncounciled A3.

She doesn't want to drive anything French, or a mini, or a KA. The criteria I have been given really is quite hard...

Half the reason I am persuading her to get something sensible is so I can have a silly car again

Good shout but can't see her insuring or wanting it Due to being foriegn insurance isn't really cheap despite being 25.
