Noticed that the price of road fuel has come off its high during last few weeks, but looking at 28sec heating oil and its stuck at around 57p litre. It did drop in mid May to just under 50p but soon came back to today's price.
Now why is it that road fuel has decreased in price but not heating fuel, yes I know its profiteering by oil companies, barstewards.
Anyone care to hazard a guess in the short term as to where the price may go?

Unfortunately for us, so far as domestic fuel efficiency is concerned, we live in a house built when fuel price was measured in how much wood you could load onto your back and get it home. Had a long hard look at alternative fuels but keep coming back to seeing no advantages in changing. Know zero about heat exchange malarky though.

Same here walls are 2 feet thick

If oil is 57p and assuming 85% efficiency that's going to be 6.7p/Wwh - if you have to buy oil in winter and most people seem to then it's going to cost the same as leccy

Leccy is 10p and if we install an aircon unit for a few hundred pounds that is also a heat pump then for every 1 unit in about 3 come out (we are fortunate that it can be installed under the house so freezing winter temps are not really an issue)

That gives a net cost of about 3.3p/Kwh - time will tell!

Bear in mind that road fuel increases are 4 times (or more) what they should be due to tax.

Or get 10 x 42U racks and fill then with servers - as they will love that nice chilly air. Run a bit of fibre in and you can open your own datacentre that warms your house for free.
