Spotted: 2006 Audi S6 Quattro

A 5.2 V10-engined S6 for 18k? Yes. Yes please...

As recipes for executive saloons go, the combination of Audi's four-wheel-drive know-how and build quality along with a bored and stroked version of the V10 engine they fit in the Gallardo has to be right up there.

Having given the world what is widely considered to be an all-time-great engine with the old 4.2 V8, Audi decided to go one further in 2006 and fit a 5.2 litre derivative of the 5.0 litre V10 they supply to Lamborghini. Ok, so it doesn't have the twin turbos of its RS6 big brother, but still 429bhp should leave you in pretty good shape for any executive traffic light stampedes and motorway hoonery.

We spotted this one at a dealer in Amersham looking very smart in its Pearlescent Phantom Black paint with Silver Silk Nappa trim. Showing just 59,000 miles it doesn't sound like its lead a particularly hard life, and the presence of a complete Audi service history backs this up.

The only question is; would you be able to refrain from telling everyone that your car '...has an engine like the one from a Lamborghini'?

Serious amount of car for the wedge. Wish they were that cheap here in CH...!!!

It's an Audi "..they all do that, Sir".

Mate had one of these a few years back, loved it.

I'd love one but I bet the value is going to continue to plummet!

Not sure I fancy the servicing costs either!

Just what I was thinking, If I did not know any better I would have thought that is just another Audi rep mobile, could be a fun sleeper re-badged as a 2.0 TDI

Pop some 17" alloys on it and it will be much nicer ride and probably ahndle better.

A lot of car for, well a lot but not a lot of money, but I agree, unless fuel & insurance costs drop the value of all these big cars will continue to drop in the second hand market.

A mate has an S6 Avant that he picked up for about £23k. It is quick and swallows a lot of kit, but if you use the performance you need a fuel truck following you about. Little bit wooden to drive though.

Servicing, tyres etc are pricey - although I believe specialists like Fontain etc might be cheaper.

Lot of car for the money, and a good shout if you do limited mileage... I'd always go for an Avant myself.

My mate has got an estate - chipped and with a miltek exhaust - apparently it's got 480hp...sounds good too

the surest way to hope at least a shred of residual value remains when you bore of it .

Fast as they are, they are often terribly detached from the speed, like experiencing a lapdance from the distressing anaesthesia and drip-drip of an ICU bed.

Ahh this just had me looking in the classifieds to see if any rs6's had bombed into the low 20's sadly not. So then started watching vids of rs6's on yt. The 750 evotech looks awesome.

Seeing this has made me pleased I didn't buy one (albeit the one I saw was low mileage and mint) for £28k a little while ago. I feel they also have further to fall as petrol prices remain high. Servicing alternates between £480 and £720 at Audi and they can be run on long life servicing.

The drive is staggering and I am sure I will have to own one, even if only for a short while.

At the moment, my job involves too many miles and the fuel bills would irk me to the point of negating the fun of the car... massive fun that it is.

I am the first one to jump on people who generalize Audi's as having hard rides, we have an A4 S Line and it is a very comfortable car.

However I think the S6 stood out as having a very firm ride, and I remember one of my Dad's colleagues moaning about one. That may well be because he was a 40 something bloke, I am sure the car is fine
