Is it worth joining the TVR car club.

If you attend S club they provide the insurance, trophies, support and infrastructure for me to run the event. If you buy parts from many of the usual suppliers as a club member you get a discount on these. Insurance can also be discounted but this is usually obtainable by other means. The magazine is worth the subscription alone IMHO having been improved massively over the last 2 years or so with the S series featured regularly thanks to Andrew (TVRGit). If you want to track the car their exclusive track days are well worth it and cheaper than you can do privately (as a rule)
These are the pros as I see it in addition to supporting the owners club of a low volume mark, however each to their own and each person will make a choice

Our daughter has her membership money sitting here ready to send but she owes Jeremy a story on her first years ownership of her TVR and it keeps getting pushed to the side as she is in Uni now taking her nursing courses. (Jeremy might be in the old folks home by the time she sends the story but she will send it as I have read her rough draft and its not bad.) Our family finds that Chelsea's membership in TVRCC is a better bang for the buck than our membership in the North American TVRCC and we get NO extra benifits from either club but we have met very many wonderful people from both clubs. So as long as we can afford it, we will not be giving up any of our club memberships and we hope that the small amount of money that we pay for membership and donations help keep the TVR name and TreVoR's dream alive for many more generations to enjoy like we currently do with our cars.

£39 if you pay by direct debit after the first year, but I listed a number of things it gives you for the s series owners on here many of whom use the clubs resources without relaising it at meets and in particular SCH. As for your reply the average 10% off at a number of the TVR specialists would pay for the membership itself (even at your quoted £51) with a single service of the speed six engine in your Tamora with the fixed prices at most of them.Anyway taking your point the con is you don't want to pay what amounts to less than a tank of fuel to support the single mark club!!! This is clearly your choice but it is hardly a con just a reflection on yourself. As I said in my post each will make their own choice and I have no reason to change your view just layout the pros for those who are asking the questions and they'll make the decision for themselves
Just to avoid any confusion I am a member, I am also the Devon Regional Organiser so am not neutral in the debate but just believe this topic is regularly done to death on various PH forums and is usually hijacked by the detractors from the club without a balanced argument coming through. Crux is, in my opinion, each person should decide if they can afford the joining fee for a year, if they can then they should join for one year and make their own minds up dependant upon how much they use it.
From my perspective even before I was an RO (RO membership fees are free as they do a lot of work for the club in organising events etc and this is the payback) my membership fee was more than payed back in the discounts I got at TVRcarparts and Dulfords, so for me the cost was always a pro rather than a con!

I was a member and only stopped being one when the year ran out and they never told me. I contacted them to ask why I was not receiving Sprint anymore and had a short response to let me know the membership had lapsed some time ago. No letters, no emails, just a lapsed membership.
That said I feel that if you are an enthusiast of the car you should support the club whether its an S or an Alfa.
I never used the discounts mentioned and my workload prevents me from joining the meetings, but the magazine was worth the money alone in my opinion.

Just to note coverage of the S ( as well as other older cars) in the magazine is getting a lot better - it went through a phase of articles all about 'new' TVR owners visting chateaus in the South of France but some good technical articles are creeping in.
Also if you fancy doing track days - memebership is certainly worth it for the TVRCC organised events.

As a new member I can definitely say it is great to be a member! It is more than receiving a monthly magazine, by going along to meets you get the opportunity to see other cars close up, chat with like minded people Face to Face, discuss problems you may be having with your car, get help etc, etc, etc. Cheers Pete
