Agreed. I don't like the city, try not to go in. I live 8 miles west of the city. I don't even find it good on the eye, with the exception of Queens Road etc, just grey and dull. Unlike Glasgow and Edinburgh, Aberdeen is too small so all the neds tend to gather in the city centre rather than staying in their local areas so it's a lot more noticable.
However, head out the city and Aberdeenshire has so much to offer. In fact, I remember reading on the BBC website last year it offers the highest quality of living in Scotland. It's so green, lovely hills and moutains, quiet roads. Complete contrast to the city.

Although Aberdeen may be a bit grey in colour I like living here, been to many places travelling and with my job but wouldn't leave in a hurry, providing you dont go into bad areas and can ignore the idiot on a saturday night in town theres not much wrong with the place. As far as im concerned its great, its not far to the hills for snowboarding, cycling, good roads and all sorts of other outdoor activities, plenty shops and thousands of restaurants and bars. There is plenty to do in the city regardless of what some will say. People like to moan and complain but its always the same generalised statements from people who dont get out and have rather dull lives themselves.

I was speaking about this to Mrs Marto over the weekend (she used to bide in Turra, but has been in Paris / London for the past 10yrs). On a sunny day, Aberdeen can look lovely. On a shi
y day, its looks duller than a Dacia Sandero.
But as other callers have said here, every city has its good and bad!

I work in Aberdeen (and used to live there). Good place to work, assuming you are in the oil industry cause there's eff-all else. A small city, lots of parks, some decent restaurants but not much culture. Lots of students. Handy for whisky country if that's your thing.
I wouldn't choose to live there again (I stay about 35 miles West).

That's the usual oily attitude! I wouldn't choose to live there again (I stay about 35 miles West).
There is actually quite a lot more to Aberdeen than the oil industry. Speak to anyone who knew Aberdeen before the oil and they'll tell you how the industry took the soul out of the city. It is a bit vulgar and soul-less I feel sometimes. It's nice enough, although with it's bad areas (but what city of reasonable size doesn't?)okgo said:
A LOT of chaved up cars in the city too!
alot of very nice metal too though. a normal spotted "week" in edinburgh or glasgow would consist of a ferrari 355 and maybe a audi r8 too! in aberdeen you'd see them everytime you drive down union street. coupled with as said above close proximity to the ski resorts and not far from some brilliant roads. birds wise its a two tier system, snooty daddys girl and aye min fars ma bairns. Doesnt seem to be an inbetween.Marto said:

Yes: it is the "transit lounge" aspects that make it most unpalatable - where people are careless of their surroundings.
