I think I have gone mad....

In the last 18mths I have bought four cars and sold none. Current fleet has expanded to:

2000 530iA SE LPG
2004 Passat 1.9 TDI Highline Estate
1997 Integra Type R DC2
1996 Mazda MX-5 1.8
1993 Mazda MX-5 1.6

I really need a big consolidation session. Anyone else have a problem?

Very briefly...

The BMW is the 20,000 mile / year work hack thats getting a bit tired now tbh. The Passat is the load lugger (got it cheap) & Teg the fun car.

I wanted an MX5 for summer to mess about with so bought the 96 1.8 which is bog standard. Nice car but nothing special. Today got offered a cheap white '93 1.6 import with loads of mods for just £575! Is mint - couldn't resist!

The red '96 1.8 is about to hit ebay!

Know what you mean. A mate worked out how many I had got, some projects, but am now up to 9!

We have 6 at the moment.

It was 7, but I found it difficult to find somewhere that the redundant airport snotter could dissolve where it wasn't in the direct line of sight of our neighbours. (We don't live in a 'snotty' neighbourhood, but I feel obliged to be considerate!)

4 of the 6 are road legal and are in quite regular use..........

- Nissan 300ZX twin turbo - Daily, (although I really shouldn't!)
- VW Sharan VR6 - Wife's old car that I haven't got round to selling yet because it fills the gap when the Zed or Wife's current car needs attention or breaks and is great for tip runs an' towin' an' sh!t.)
- VW Sharan 2.0 Auto - Wife's current daily and child/family mover.
- Shogun 3.0 - Having work done at time of writing but is the main load lugger/tow car/inclement weather vehicle of choice.
- 2x Opel Monza - Projects. One nearer roadworthiness than the other, but the 'other' will be getting weighted in when I can move the 'nearer' once it's back on it's wheels.

However, I need to restrain myself regularly when browsing eBay as it's just soooooooo tempting!

Of all my 'hobbies', buying cars is my favourite!

Where do you guys keep these cars? Do you all have enviously large garages and drive ways?

Big driveway, most of it is out of sight and some occassional parking is afforded outwith the perimeter of my property. (Thankfully!) Semi rural though. (I think that's what it's called.)

Garage is slightly narrower than would fit two cars so doubles as a workshop/shed/store/cave. (Shame 'cos before 'the extension' I could fit five cars in the garage. Kids eh?!?!?!?)

I also have two caravans but hopefully one of them will be gone the morrow.

I'm in a fortunate position, but next week I might have to look into reducing the fleet 'if you know what I mean'.

I'm also fortunate that a couple of our vehicles can be classed as 'specialist' so the insurance is pocket money compared to mainstream insurers. (In fact, thankfully it would turn out, my preferred insurer for ten years refused to cover two of our current cars so I found a very accomodating broker.)

Road tax 'ent so bad either as all of our cars were registered before CO2 emissions started being an issue.

The way I see it is that I have a car for any occassion that costs me less than my peer's single cars do on an annual basis.

The sum worth of the 'fleet' is about £7k, and they're all mine to sell should I need the money.

And yes, a 'one catch all policy' would be great, but if you don't drive a Mondeo/Vectra/Clio/Corsa they won't touch you with a brgepole. (Saying that, I should ask my tame broker if he can do anything for me when the time(s) come!)

Now where might I get a 400 BHP, 5 second to 50, 4x4, 7 seater but 2 seater toy at the same time, with a towbar and T-Tops and a voluminous payload area for under £7k?

Find me a car that will do track days and off road events better then my BMW 328 and SIII Land Rover combo. You have a £3kish budget.

I am lucky that I have a lock up I use for my business but can also fit 3 cars in it.

Also I have trade insurance as it works out very reasonable over the year and covers up to a 1,000 cars at any one time!
