Buying tyres - How hard can it be

Need 4 new tyres - 2 on the daily hack and 2 rears for the Chim.
Head down to local place I usually use Sat 8.30 am - Been taken over and now don't open until 9.00am so nip round the corner to Kwik Fit for a price -
KF:sorry mate the computers not working -
Me: how long will it be
KF: Duuno.
Me: Bye
Just down the Road ATS:
Walk in and guy is on phone. Wait 5 mins while he finishes telling guy to bring car in as those Peugeots are sdreadful and use all sorts of parts so need to see it.
ATS guy finishes call and phone rings immediately:
ATS: Sorry mate phone won't stop ringing
Me: Well if its more important then me I'll leave
ATS guy: Good Morning ATS how can I help you
Me: Bye
How hard is it for these monkeys to realise that a customer in front of you should be served not palmed off or ignored.
I know they're not exactly top of the intellectual tree or well paid but surely some training might be a good idea?

Buy from camskill, rock up with pound notes to a non chain tyre place and ask for them to be fitted..
This ^^^^^ even with tha added cost to pay someone to fit the loose tyres,it still works out better,and Camskill normally deliver pretty dammm quick,as long as you know what tyres you want for each car.I know what you mean about people answering the phone and leaving you standing there. Annoys the hell out of me.
I was in the shop of the company we got our company mobile phones from, sat at our account managers desk for a meeting one morning. He took four phone calls in a row, leaving me waiting.
He seemed quite surprised when he answered the fifth call, from the man sat in front of him, explaining that this was perhaps not appropriate.
All my tyres are now bought on line and fitted by a really good local, mobile tyre fitter, who is a proper petrol head.

Agreed, I now use no-one else. Last set I bought were delivered directly to my local friendly tyre shop

I have dumped shopping on the counter in my corner shop & walked out because the person behind the counter was too busy chatting on the phone.
From the other side, I won't answer my mobile if I'm being served in a shop/ pub as i feel that would be disrespectful!

Damn, I really wish I had thought of that. I would try Costco but nearest one is 30+ miles away and the tyres are an unusual size. Do Costco only supply Micelin?h

Spot on - I've walked out on a tyre fitter who seemed to think that answering enquiries on a phone was more important than dealing with a potential customer stood right in front of him.If you're alluding to the fact That I might think I'm more important than anyone else then No I don't.

It should stand to reason that if someone has taken the time to physically make their way to the shop then they should be accorded a bit of respect, if not out of courtesy and good service then for the fact that they are demonstrably keen and ready to do business.
The OP is spot on - I would have walked after the second phone call. It's very poor customer service and just plain rude.
If they can train these monkeys to sell you 4 x shocks, new exhaust, replace "dangerous" pads and disks when you only want a tyre, I'm sure they can put them through a customer service course.

Use local 'non chain', tyre places, eg in guildford chessington tyres get my vote, very accommodating, happy for tyres I've ordered my self and swap winter and summer wheels over for a reasonable labour charge, usually the local independent garages know who the best local tyre co's are
