I need to get my standard S3 alloys refurbed. They have a few chips some kerbing (slight)and have a rather general dull appearance.

Been to a local chap who tells me all he can do is prepare and paint them as the originals were machined on a lathe. Also he can't (or won't) paint in the inner sections of the spokes in black. He says they'll have to be silver all over. He quoted £40 per wheel for this.

Has anyone had their wheels refurbed lately and if so what sort of job was done and how much was it?

Does anyone know someone good in the Brighton/sussex area?

Cheers.

Ted's ban on "name and shame" posts means I can't tell you about the firm that did mine... I have just written to them tonight...

If you do a forum search, you'll find a number of mentions of B.J. Vallack who I got to do my wheels back in September 02.

I went for the powder coated finish i.e. one colour all over (reasons in my profile if you're interested) which works out at £30 per rim with the tyre on or £20 without.

They will also do the diamond cut and polish (the original finish) although that works out at £38 and £28 respectively.

I think V8Smith used them most recently, so he might have more info.

However, they are based in Hemel Hempstead which isn't particularly convenient for you, especially as a courier is v. expensive for 4 wheels! But if you can get the wheels there, I'd heartily recommend them.

Hi,

Have just taken the wheels of my V8S down to Lepsons in Gillingham, Kent. They are refurbing them & colour-coding the centres (mica blue). They do quite a lot of work in the Sussex/Surrey area & will collect & deliver wheels to/from a garage of your choice for no charge, providing it is en-route to another job. It seems as though they are quite flexible & will try and collect from anywhere if at all possible.

Haven't had the wheels back yet so don't know what they'll turn out like, but fingers crossed! The others in their factory looked good & they have a lot of experience with TVR wheels.

They charge from £75 a rim, extra for the paint if you want colour coding.

Their website is: www.lepsons.com
Phone number: 01634 580582

Good Luck,
Emma

Thanks guys.

Keith, where are Spit and Polish based? My S is my only car and I don't really want to be without it for too long. Do you have a contact number for them.

I had my wheels done at Lepsons about 2 1/2 years ago to original spec. Still looking blinding. I took them up there loose, and we did a deal for cash. £140 for all four. (The tyres were on the rims....they did all the rebalancing etc.)

I have used both Spit 'n' Polish and Lepsons and they are both as good ....when I say good I mean very good!

In my experience our wheels used to come back as new.

Incidently we did restorations of sports and classics and would send at least 1-3 sets per month.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,
Kevin

I took my S to Westover (this was probably 5 years ago) for MOT/ Service etc, while they had it they had the wheels repainted and it was a really good finish. They managed to do two colours. I had Mica blue inside over silver. Don’t know who the company was, but Chris Amey Westover is fairly helpful so may be worth a call.
