Confused - advice neeeded I think!
Discussion
Just looking to add a pair of speakers to my Roksan Caspian M-Series 1 Integrated Amp & CD Player after selling my MA GS60s a few months ago. Have auditioned a pair of KEF Q500s today & was quite impressed for the money, didn't get time to audition the Q700s though. The only review I can find on the Q700s is What Hi-Fi & it isn't a good one - has anybody got any personal experience or links to reviews?
Also debating what to do regarding surround sound as I sold my MA Gold Centre speaker along with my GS60's, I still have my Silver FX rears and Yamaha DSP-E800 surround amp. The dealer has suggested two separate systems which makes sense but is going to get too pricey for two decent set ups, do I just keep one system & buy a KEF centre speaker to go with the fronts & use my existing rears? I would look to add a sub-woofer later when the initial financial outlay has been forgotten!
Music is my main interest, surround sound is a very nice bonus.

Not really answering your question, but you say you were "quite impressed for the money", which is hardly a rave review. Speaking from personal experience it is a false economy to buy speakers, or any other pieces of hifi, if you think they are only good for the money. Save up to buy something you really like, or you'll only be looking to upgrade again soon.
Spending this sort of money I would not rely on reviews at all, particularly What Hifi. I know it's a cliche, but trust you ears. Your tastes may be very different from those of a reviewer.
Hope this advice is of some use to you.

Thanks for the reply. I am coming down from a £2300 pair of speakers, not much is going to sound (or look) as good unless I spend similar money which would defeat the object! The MA RX6's get rave reviews yet I personally didn't get on with them at all, the KEFs are cheaper and get lesser reviews yet I liked them, even allowing for the sizeable difference in cost.Spending this sort of money I would not rely on reviews at all, particularly What Hifi. I have the Kef Q7 (the first version with the oval driver), so the Q700 is 2 models newer than mine if I am correct.
My Q7 is a lovely speaker, awesome bass and clarity. I am not an expert by any means, but I auditioned a number of different speakers at the time, and these were by far the best in my eyes (or ears?).
If the Q700 follows logic, and is a better speaker than mine, I would imagine they should sound good.
I am tempted to upgrade to the new Kef Q900's though, they look like absolute beasts!

Good value at the moment as they are 20% off to celebrate KEFs 50th Anniversary I'm told. I had KEF Q35.2's before my GS60s & they were very good.My Q7 is a lovely speaker, awesome bass and clarity. Funny you say that, after today's post I went over to my local Hi-fi store and looked at them with the 20% off - they are absolute beasts - bloody huge!£960 for a pair of those seems a bargain, I wonder how much I can sell an immaculate pair of light (ash?) coloured Q7's for!
ETA the Q700's are 3 models newer than mine I think - Q7, IQ7, IQ70 and then Q700's right?

I have no idea, sorry. I'm hoping to take my CD/Amp in to audition the Q700s on saturday, the Q900s are too close in size to my old GS60s which would defeat the object!£960 for a pair of those seems a bargain, I wonder how much I can sell an immaculate pair of light (ash?) coloured Q7's for!

I'm auditioning the Q900's next weekend with my Myryad kit - I hope the amp is powerful enough for those speakers - they are one hell of a step up from my Q7's.I have a feeling my Q7's will be going on Ebay in about a week and half!

My Q35.2's sold with no problem at all, I'm sure your Q7's will too. Good luck on saturday, they are big beasties! I have a feeling my Q7's will be going on Ebay in about a week and half!
