Knocking noise

I have noticed a "creaking" noise on my Chim. It seams to be mid to front where its coming from. (possibly front wheels) Doesn't make the noise when i have a passenger in the car but over grass or slightly uneven surfaces its very audiable.
Anyone else had anything like this?

Obviously you should get someone to have a look underneath if you think it maybe an indication of something serious, but to be honest, if you try to analyze all the creaks, squeaks and knocks you get in these cars as standard, you may end up paranoid everytime you drive it,which may spoil all the fun of ownership.my advice would be listen to the engine, turn up the stereo, dont listen out for all the noises that annoy, and enjoy it.

This is asking the stupid i know, but last year on the way to Pistonfest the motor developed a knocking/grinding noise. Couldn't pinpoint it precisely.

Only turned out to be a lose set of bloody wheelnuts on the front offside wheel!!!

Worth a check!

Having taken the front off side wheel off last night, i found that there is a very small amount of movement if i hold the disc and pull and push it. Is this normal? If so this could be my answer i guess....? Wheel bearing? or do all move very slightly?

I've had 2 Chims and both made that same noise, intermittently! I jacked up car, removed wheels, cleaned and lubricated everything in site(including removing stones caught between chassis and body)and seems to cure it - for a while anyway! Hope this helps...

I'm sure that is normal, the wheel clamps the disc to the hub with the wheel nuts.

Could well be a bearing, although that normally comes with a dull metalic grinding noise.

Another knocking from the front thing I had was a suspension bush worn. Only cost a few quid to get it fixed.

ok, i've had the front wheels checked today and my "mate of a mechanic" says its not the bearings as there is no play in the wheel once jacked up. I reckon, bushes. I've been quoted the following:

8 x bushes (wishbone) @ £8.28 each
2 x Damper @ £10.27 each
2 x upper damper @ £11.11 each

All plus vat ofcourse.

Does this sound right?
(sorry to sound dumb but all this is new to me and dont want to get ripped off!)

Dont tell me 10 hours work @ £50 an hour!

Sounds about right, being that they're only bits of hard rubber basically!

I reckon it'd be somewhere between 3-5 hours labour though, although I'm no expert. Just a guess!!

I think some of mine are on their way to being worn too. I went over one of those nasty rubber speed bumps today and heard some knocking coming from the front and a little from the rear.

prices above are from main tvr dealer in Henley. (not getting the work done there, got a mobile mechanic thats due to do the work on Thursday all being well.

On a separate note... I cant find 05/50 oil anywhere. Does anyone use anything else?

Think Fernies used 10-50 in mine.

5-50 available in France IIRC.

if i have got 5/50 in mine and i put 10/50 in, will that bugger things up?
