Gates and Cameron the new Bonos
Discussion
Just listened to Cameron the new saviour of the world's starving and non-immunised children. He sounds like Bono!
Bill Gates, the instigator behind this scheme wants to raise just over £2billion extra to implement this scheme. Another Bono, but much richer.
Bill Gates increased his net worth fortune last year to this by, yeah you've guessed it, by ...£2billion (from £54b to £56b).
You don't need to raise it Bill, you're pledging £6billion I hear, just hand over another £2b you tight sod and 'your' problem is solved!
Gates is rolling in money, so he asks for more to fund a monolithic charitable program with it's strong links to his own personal foundation.
And our dopey Cameron becomes Bliar2 with each passing day.
ps to add.

When I see GHates, in connection with his charitable works, I see guilt.
There have been allegations - as there often are with ultra-successful individuals - that he trampled on more than a few heads and shoulders to elevate himself to his current status. I jsut get the impression he sees this as a do-over opportunity.
The outcome of chritable works and donations - when we already know vast chunks of overseas aid are being blown on private jets for tin-pot despots - is dubious, lathough I'm not arguing this should prevent anyone from trying to do good. As for tangible, beneficial results, only time will tell.

Bill Gates has donated billions of dollars to the Bill Gates' charitable foundation and well as his considerable talents.
He has also persuaded others to donate including Buffett who donated $37bn.
What have you done with you life and how much have you donated to charity? How does this compare with Gates that you feel the need to critise his efforts.

Wow. When threads attack!!
Anyway, charities are required to be fully audited - KPMG do ours pro bono in return for getting their logo on our merchandising (that's for free, not for the rockstar
). We also provide our donors regular updates as to how the students are getting on so they can see how their money is directly making a difference. To criticise Bill Gates is pretty pathetic really. You also find that lots of well to do people give a heck of a lot of their wealth to charitable causes.

Politicians however are accountable to the tax payers (are they still)? – So that is my concern.
Like him or not Bill Gates is a legend when it comes to charity work. You only have to watch his TED talks to see how much he genuinely wants to make life better for those who need it most, let alone donating 28 Billion of his own dollars to the cause.
The world needs more people like him, not idiots bemoaning his achievements and doing FA themselves. He's a hell of a powerful guy who undoubtedly has the ear of the most powerful people in the world in business and politics. The fact he's using this to the advantage of such a good cause is commendable, and he's leading by example.

I am quite happy to spend Overseas aid on vaccines, as long as the direct payments to Governments are stopped. I would also like to see the aid being directed on the poorest countries and those with most to gain. Not India/Pakistan/China/etc.
As for Bill Gates, he gives more money in aid than most European countries.
I don't see it as guilt, I see it as philanthropy. It is a quality that most British people do not consider, as not many people make money in the UK so they can help others.
all for saving lives but why is it always us:
"The UK has already committed £2 billion over thirty years, more than any other nation."
i thought we were poor?
good on gates but then its easy to give when you have lots - giving as a percenatge of wealth would be a more accurate measure. easy for cameron to get swept up in it all when its not his cash.
wonder how much ends up with the rich pharmathinghy companies....

If it was, Gates would still, most probably be, the most charitable person alive, especially considering that him and his wife have promised to give the vast majority of his fortune away to charity before he dies.
