Renaultsport Megane Trophy: Fastest Renault Yet

La Regie hots up its already-hot hatch for limited edition

This is, we're told, the fastest-ever Renault. It's called the Mégane Renaultsport 265 Trophy and it's a new limited edition that's set to be unveiled at the Nurburgring round of the World Series by Renault this weekend.

The Trophy gets an extra 15hp and 15lb ft of torque, pushing its vital statistics up to 265hp and 266lb ft of torque. That's enough to drop the 0-62mph sprint by a tenth of a second to 6.0secs dead, and to improve the top speed by 2mph to 158mph.

Okay, so it's not a massive performance hike but it is, like we said, enough to make the Trophy the fastest road-going Renault ever.

In order to create a Trophy, Renault takes a Cup-spec chassis, bungs in some Recaro seats with yellow seatbelts and detailing, red-rimmed 19-inch Speedline alloys, Liquid Yellow paint (you may remember it from such fast Renaults as the Clio Renaultsport 182 and V6 255, and the R26 and R26.R), and 'Trophy' decals on the front 'blade' and doors.

The Trophy also includes Renaultsport Monitor on-board performance tracking, some sticky Bridgestone Potenza RE050As and a UK-numbered plaque.

Customers will also get free access to the full 2012 Renaultsport UK track day calendar, worth around £650, which is awfully decent of Renault.

If you fancy one then you'd better get onto it, though; the Trophy is limited to 500 units worldwide, and the UK is due to get just 50 of them. Those 50 will be available to order from 20th June, priced at £27,820 (only £600 more than the top-spec 'standard' car) with deliveries expected in early July.

WEAK.

On the 182 the 'Trophy' name actually meant something. Not just a £4.99 re-map, but bespoke tuned remote reservoir front suspension which made it a limited run gem to topple giants on your favourite B-road.

Renaultsport should be ashamed! How about you take out some weight, use the 18" wheels which are widely known to make the car handle and ride much better, fettle the suspension a bit to make the most of the 18s, then come back with your pride intact.

Am all in favour of performance improvements, but what is it with Renaultsport and terrible alloy wheels?!

Agree with the post above - this seems to smack of a marketing exercise... Not that I am surprised.

Renault needs to sell cars to the masses and not just the hardcore enthusiasts and that's what many of the limited editions is all about these days, people like a little difference, few changes here and there from the norm and they will sell.....As good as the R26.R was it just didn't gain the audience it deserved, this is just a marketing exercise....

Still one of the best handling hot hatches out of the box, minus those ugly 19" speedline's lol

It's very nice and all, but I bet £1 that the Mégane will shortly be facelifted, at which point all this stuff plus more will
become standard equipment, just like with the 225 Trophy.

AFAIK, Megane RS250 will remap to 300bhp quite comfortably; so this car seems particularly pointless.

Renault exist to make money, the R26.R was one of the most praised FWD cars ever...but hardly anybody wanted one. The sad irony is that this run of 50 (with a minimal investment from Renaultsport) will probably sell quicker than the first 50 R26.Rs (which had a proper development programme and probably cost quite a few quid to bring to the market).

The quote was:

"This is, we're told, the fastest-ever Renault."

They never stated road going. I wish they made it look more like the Megane racer, that looks good.

Would I buy one ? No. Not until I have the confidence that Renault have their reliability issues cracked and employ some dealers who care.
In my experience, that requirement leads to not owning any car.

I know i will get a kicking by the frenchie lovers, but i dont like these things, been in and driven quite a few french fast hatches and they mostly handle very well and are very eager but they feel cheap and flimsy compared to say a fast golf or focus.

They are light, which is good and a massive aid to fine handling and acceleration, great if you want a balls out track car.

Me I would prefer creature comforts but more power to pull you along = FOCUS RS PLEASE!! will hold its value better than any Megane...

On the fastest Renault ever... I might be wrong but I think the car which ppl are referring to was made by Renault but badged as an Alpine A610?? good for 160-165 mph? can someone conf?

confused
