Good Sci Fi game?

Chaps - I fancy a bit of Sci Fi action. I have a PC and an Xbox. Recommendations? It can be an old game (doesn't have to be latest and greatest etc!).

Looking for something to get stuck into; bit of trading, bit of piracy, hunting etc. Elite but maybe updated?

I daren't touch Eve. I played the 14 day demo FOC and started turning up late for work, classes, social events.

It is a thing of awe. As far as I am concerned, it is the new Elite, version 2 of the original on the BBC Micro. Yeah, space combat isn't the same but it becomes less relevant as the whole - politics, war, trading, economy, character classes, skills, ship upgrades and improvements. It was nice knowing you.

Dead space 2 - event horizon plus the thing x 100!

Freespace & Freespace 2 on PC.

FS2 is especially polished and you don't have to play Freespace to get into it.

Do it, you will not be disappointed.

X-Wing Alliance - this seriously needs a remake!

Thanks chaps; some good ideas on here. Eve. Really appeals to me but not the monthly subscription. I'd like to try the 14 day trial but I just know I'd be sucked in.

I'm just starting on the Mass Effect trilogy, liking it so far.

System Shock 2. Play it in the dark. Much better than Bioshock IMHO. Years old but still very playable.
