I do love how people think the "tennis" season is purely Wimbledon.

The media worldwide seemed to agree that the semifinalists were not nly the top 4, but the top 4 on ability, but hey we will have a bit of Murray is a miserable scot and so will never win...blah blah.

Do remember that for the majority of this country, moaning and complaining is the only thing they know!

Well done to him i say and i would dearly love for someone from the UK to win Wimbledon!

Different gravy over 5 sets though. Has a 2-4 record against Nadal in slams, 0-1 vs Djokovic and 0-2 against Fed. Murray has all the physical and technical attributes to beat these guys but when it comes to the slams, he is not mentally strong enough.

I hope that changes though.

Eh? Are you a bit simple? He's beaten them all and holds a winning (8-5) record against Federer.

You'll be putting your house on Murray to win Wimbledon then?

Are those the only two options? Hmmm, I've got to think Murray has no chance or put everything I own on him to win Wimbledon?

The point is that Murray is very much on a par with his three rivals. He scares them. That says it all. Regardless of his lack of success in the slams, his game is so varied that he presents problems for all of them.

That said, it's clear that he hasn't fully produced the goods when it matters. He hasn't exactly thrown any of his slam matches against them, quite the opposite - his opponents have been on top of their game to beat him. The final piece of the jigsaw would appear to be his channeling his frustration into the next point a la McEnroe, rather than dwelling on the last point.

In all the criticism he receives, the most ridiculous is that he lacks the skills. He's possibly the most naturally talented of all the top players. Instead he has to shoulder the mental burden of the great British expectations. In this he is streets above any British player that has played for decades. But he's not mentally as strong as his three contenders yet.

Plenty of time though. Chances are that Federer will retire before he does, Nadal will break down before he does, and Novak will go off the boil....

Wow! Not sure where to start with this one.....

Firstly no he's not on par with his three rivals one has 16 slams another 10, and the final one has 2 that's about as far away from 'par' as you can get.

Secondly if you honestly think that Murray is a more 'naturally talented' than federer then I respectively suggest you take up following a different sport.

+1

I wouldn't place a bet for Murray to win Wimbledon, but it would come as no surprise if he did, because is definitely able to.

Which is a tad different to our last hope, Henman, who despite being successful as a player, you just simply 'knew' wouldn't (or is that couldn't?) win Wimbledon.

I agree. Murray is capable of winning a slam, he's made 3 finals already. Henman was never quite in that class although he made the most of his talent and the fact that he made the semi final of a grand slam 6 times is testament to his character.

Murray is an exceptional player. If he had through in Henman's era, he would already have several slam titles to hi name.

Unfortunately for him, he's had to deal with two of the greatest male players the game has ever seen, in Federer and Nadal. There may be some question marks over his mental strength when it really matters, but certainly not with respect to his skill.

Having watched today's match, you've pretty much summed up my thoughts. He's got the talent, the fitness, the mental strength, and the required shots. It's just a shame he's in the same era as Federer and Nadal, really. Much like Sir Stirling during the Fangio era, and Randy Mamola during the Spencer / Lawson / Rainey era. Great talent. Bad timing.

What I was impressed with today was his ability to return the majority of Tsonga's 140mph serves.

What I think he lacks is the fierce cross-court passing shot a la Sampras / Nadal / Federer.
