PC gaming, why?

I upgrade my PC every so often but never with top of the range stuff (generally spend a tad over £100 on a graphics card rather than the insane £500) and it can run all the latest games on high or nearly high settings and with game purchases has worked out cheaper than playing the same amount of games on my PS3 or Xbox.Not had a gaming PC for ages though - just too expensive.
The only console games I really get are the ones limited purely to console or where the only PC version is a bad port, which is far too common.
I can also take my PC apart and have a tinker when I get bored
Comes down to customisation and flexibility really.
Mouse and Keyboard, Better graphics, cheaper games, more modification potential, lots of cheap & freebies (mods, indie games), proper multitasking (can alt-tab out to access anything).
But you pay for it in the fact that you'll be looking at spending £1000 every 3 years to keep things 'decent' graphically, but you can get away with 4 or maybe 5 years if you're happy to turn the detail down. Compare to £200-300 every 4-5 years for a console and its a big difference.
HOWEVER!
Bear in mind most console gamers will spend £500-600 on a laptop or PC anyway for non-gaming stuff. That, and PC gamers get significantly cheaper games, even on release. So its not all bad.

I guess it is personal preference, when i first got the xbox i was shockingly bad with the remote, hours and hours of practice soon sorted that :-)
I don't see any of the Total War or Civ games on console. We have a PS3, but is used mainly for Blu ray films now. I was so disappointed with GT5 - visuals not half as good as I hoped, and those load times! We also have a HTPC (quite powerful), so can play all games on our 50" HDTV, too.

I'm a big console gamer, have been for the past 10 or 11 years now but there are some games I just play on the PC whether that is for convenience or because they don't appear on console. Games like Sim City, Total War and Civ are only on computer and for a cross over game, trying to play Football Manager on the X360 is laughable compared to a PC. For some gamers, I respect how they take apart the computer and spec it right up to the hilt to play the latest and best games, but for myself I still have some computer based games because consoles either don't play them as efficiently or they do not appear on the consoles I own

You cant mod games properly on consoles, I was part of a team that made a mod for Rfactor, I got as much enjoyment out of making the mod as I did driving it..
cant do this with consoles, plus for first person shooters, using a gamepad just seems utterly alien to me, as I am used to mouse and KB. Microsoft should release this for the Xbox to make fps better, I would buy one then.
Graphics and game play are right at the top. Plus most monitors run at a res above 1080p with a higher refresh rate. RTS games and sims just dont work on a console and developers can produce some stunning games that would melt an xbox and PS3. We are also getting to the point where once again PC hardway has stormed a head of what consoles can do.

sorry but it took me long enough to get kind of good on xbox :-)love the dog tag collection on bc1 and 2, hope this is in battlefield 3.
