An eccentric is planning to spend £250,000 on a search to find OBL's body to prove that reports of his death are not exaggerated.

I'm expecting he'll mysteriously disappear without trace and later it will emerge on Wikileaks that the US navy may have been performing submarine maneuvers in the area at the time of his disappearance...

A needle in a haystack and a waste of time and money. A shame really when he could be doing so much good with that kind of cash.

I am simply astounded that anyone is daft enough to believe the remains were left in one conveniently wrapped and labelled bundle.

(if it is down there) i wouldn't imagine it will be in one piece still after the currents/sharks/rocks/salt etc do their bit ?

It took the US months to find a hulking great steel submarine even when they triangulated the bang.

Finding a body in an ocean isn't going to happen. The mafia didn't pick the sea because they like the salt air...

Dr. Robert Ballard, who found the wreck of the Titanic, wasn't actually looking for the wreck. He was searching for a sunken Russian nuclear sub and found a bigger wreck.

I never knew that. That's amazing.
The odds of finding a ship in the ocean are hard enough as is, the odds of finding another ship while looking for a submarine must be even bigger.

I dunno, the odds of finding a submarine are quite small.
Conversely, the odds of not finding a submarine are a lot larger.

In this case they found the Titanic, which was not a submarine, although it is sub-marine.

Wasn't it USS Thresher he was looking for? The guy's led a pretty amazing life. His talk a TED a couple of years ago was inspirational:

Edit- according to Wiki, he wanted to look for the Titanic, but the USN only provided funding on the condition that he checked out two downed subs first. Looks like the funding difficulties for deep sea exploration are just as big as ever.
