Insurance - cheapest way to get a years no claims
Discussion
Does a car need a valid MOT to be able to be insured?
My insurance, MOT and tax all run out at once since I did them all one summer returning from university. Time has come when they've all run out but I'm now living and working in London and the car isn't here. I currently have 4 years no claims and so think it might be sensible to increase this to 5 which will coincide with my 25th birthday and hopefully make insuring something tastey the year after a lot more affordable!
The car doesn't have an MOT (I'm not sure how much it would take to get it through, I'm hoping not a lot since it hasn't done many miles since last year but it is reasonably old), I fully intend to make it SORN since road tax is pricey if you're not using it at all but can I still try to find an extremely cheap 10 miles/annum insurance policy to add to the no-claims or is this not worth the hassle/expense?

We've seen in another thread that if you don't keep your NCD going it can revert back to zero after a few years.
Can you do too few miles per year as well as too many?
Was just about to post a similar point. Can you do too few miles per year as well as too many?
Do you have a link to the other thread you are referring to?
Would be handy to see what is being said.

4 yrs = 60% discount
5 yrs = 65% discount
Is it worth paying an extra year for the extra 5% saving next year?
I wasn't aware it was only 5% difference, may just leave it for a year. I'm aware about the 2 year rule so won't let that lapse, was just trying to work out whether it was worth insuring for a year to get the 5 years. I assume though that the car would have to have a valid MOT, don't think tax is a requirement though, is that correct?5 yrs = 65% discount
