Hi folks,

I have recently purchased a pearl white car that has been laid up in a garage as I said in the title for around 5 years, it has not seen any polish or wax for the entire time although it has been washed around 3 or 4 times!
What should I be doing with this to get the best out of the paint and what products would be best suited to doing it, I do have in the garage various Autoglym bottles but would love to find out better how to put them to use properly
I have a Karcher 3.65 pressure washer with a soap bottle attached, what shampoo would be recommended to use with it and where do I get it from

Thanks in advance,

Craig

Craig, I'm certainly no expert but am keen on a bit of detailing, what you'll need is some snowfoam for the pressure washer, then a clay bar to get rid of any contaminants on the paint, possibly a machine polish to get the shine back on it, a great place to start and get all your products from would be Polished Bliss at Kintore, they sell all the stuff and have some cracking "how to" guides on their site, the guys from there also frequent here so might pick up on your post,
Gary

Thanks Gary, I have the Meguires clay kit, what is the best lubricant to use in conjunction with it.

Will check out their website and see what they have

It can get real addictive and expensive pretty quick, the Meguiars quick detail spray that comes with the kit should be fine, Halfords actually stock some decent stuff nowadays for corrective detailing but I wouldn't rely on them for advice re the use of it, if you wanted go to "detailingworld.co.uk" There is all the info and more in there and very helpfull skilled people to help for free

As already mentioned, if you up near the PB guys give them a shout. Let them know the car and if it's had any paint. They'll advise what products are best for the type of paint and if you're going to work by hand or machine. Sounds like you've got a nice challenge though. I'd be interested to see a few before and afters. I love these types of detail.

One thing with the megs quick clay kit. Make sure you use plenty of lube otherwise it tends to grab a little and you can risk inflicting marring which then leaves you with more work. Other than that it's a nice clay to use.

Use Meg's Quick Detailer (think that's what they call it) with the clay bar.
